Kodak Alaris is a profitable business with promise. Covid has hit it harder than most businesses.
For the last few decades, quarter after quarter, shareholders have extracted value out of this company as if there were no tomorrow.
As it turns out, there never was a tomorrow, because this business has been sold and re-sold so many times.
In addition to a nice business model, each subsequent set of shareholders inherits a set of liabilities and technical debt not addressed by the previous shareholders.
Expedience is the rule of the day and the company's processes and software reflect decades of neglect.
Working on this company's software is a gruling, painful slog.
The code base is still stuck on technologies that became obsolete over two decades ago.
An amazing feat, considering how fast computer technology changes nowadays.
There was a time when dedication and delivering quality work constituted an employees contribution to the bottom line, but not at Kodak Alaris.
The pay is variable, the benefits can disappear at any time. If someone is capable of finding a job elsewhere, I strongly suggest that they do.
