Great Internship Experience

The amount and potential to learn in the KOMO environment is unexplainable. It was a wonderful experience full of new opportunities. Each day was different and allowed for a college student & intern to really understand the debt of the industry in general, as well as a typical day in the life of a full-time employee at KOMO.

The fast-paced environment made it difficult at times to be in constant contact with advisor for new tasks and projects.

Great people to work with, even in trying times of an ownership change. Everyone works hard and KOMO always has had fewer resources than the other two big stations in town. It is like a big family. KOMO has always been very agile since the ownership was in the same building.
|
KOMO TV was once a great company to work for…lots of talented, passionate, committed professionals making good television. It has now shifted to a cookie cutter model driven by east coast business people who have no connection to the Northwest. The good people remain, but the soul has been taken out of the station. Executive management got their bonuses thru the sale of the company. Sinclair seems to run the stations as small stations, even though Seattle is their largest market. So many people were laid off after the ownership change. Probably more layoffs coming in 2014. Sinclair likes to cut 20% of the labor force. Pay is lower for most employees behind the scenes than the other 2 big stations in town.

It was the former executive management team that drove Fisher Broadcasting into the ground. It is unfortunate, but you could see the end coming for years. Sinclair management needs to realize that the processes and competencies at KOMO are farther advanced than many of the current Sinclair processes.
