greedy company that does not value their workers

during covid the company got rid of all the benefits from being in the office and pocketed the extra money. they focus on ridiculous growth so they can earn more money rather than treating their employees well
all they care about is pleasing their clients and getting the biggest contracts they can at the cost of overworking their employees
there is no hr department and no avenue to raise any issues without being directly confrontational
the job is decent as a stepping stone but know that the people in charge only care about money and not the mental health of their employees. expect to work overtime and weekends and write poor code because of ridiculous deadlines and incompetant requirements
oh and they dont do bonuses so dont expect to be rewarded for your hard work
on the plus side the people are great though now that everything's remote that hardly matters

Frat club disguised as a development studio

Their business model is based around developer churn. They get the biggest projects they can bid on, hire the cheapest developers they can get, distract them with cheap perks, then pocket the difference. They have one or two senior devs that hold it all together, but their software practices as a whole are mediocre at best. They don't even properly screen candidates before hiring them.
As someone else said, it's a frat club. You can definitely work here as a developer, but don't expect to do high quality work. If you want management to like you, you'll need to drink regularly, maybe even during work hours and just be one of the boys.
In short, if you actually care about software, this isn't the place for it.

Great workplace - awesome projects + people
|
The project work is really interesting and I get to work with incredibly talented and smart people. Benefits are pretty much all I'd want, but it's the 'non-policy' things that are really great. Team outings, project celebrations, chances to be involved in their charity work (ex. this month we're doing a Movember event to raise money) run club, etc. They put a big focus on this, and its pretty great.
The people though are what makes this place - I genuinely love the people I work with, couldn't ask for a better team!

Very low pay compared to other Toronto companies and industry standards (It's hard to survive in Toronto with their pay. I left for a job that valued my skills and experience - it paid 2 times more)
Frat club vibe

Hardwork doesn't pay in this place
Social drinking seems like a must
Micro management
Senior management needs to listen to their employees
Needs a proper HR department that you can trust and communicate transparently. I felt it was no use speaking to the HR since everyone was so close to each other that I wasn't comfortable raising my concerns in the fear that it would directly reach my managers/co-workers.
Bottom line. Stay away.

A fun, eye opening summer internship
|
I worked as an intern summer. I did a fair amount of boring busy work and research, but I was also fortunate enough to get put on QA for several fascinating websites and enterprise applications, as well as design a custom CMS for a large-scale mobile application. In other words, my managers consistently gave me difficult yet rewarding challenges.
Working at Konrad Group sparked my interest in Software Engineering which inevitably brought me to App Academy, giving me the marketable skills that I have today.
