Staff have the opportunity to explore all areas of public account or specialize in just one area. Partners and managers genuinely care about staff growth and the employees of KWC are great. The flexibility that KWC gives its employees is impressive. You can work from how, work part time and the best part is the 32 hour work weeks all summer long. Like any CPA firm, the hours can be tough from January to mid-April and again from August to mid-October. Environment is respectful and not overworked for public accounting. They are growing but it's mostly in control and deadlines are not a fire drill. Pay is good and benefits standard. The support "admin" staff are top rate. Close at 1pm on Fridays during summer. Not the big firm experience of luxury box seats, travel, and working on Fortune 500 clients. Firm has outgrown some clients they need to move on from. The rest of the partners are accountants and very smart and kind, but are typically lacking in vision and leadership. The firm is growing and hiring new staff. There seems to be a lot of potential for growth. You might just be able to have a good career here...or not. Poor feedback. Poor training. Insufficient structure to promote staff growth. Review process is random and haphazard. Some of the principals lack integrity. They will lie to your face just to avoid confrontation. You can't be a preparer, reviewer, manager, and principal on the same job. There needs to be an intermediary between you and the staff, especially if you are a principal who doesn't interact well with people. Increase your focus on staff development. If the the staff can't grow, they will leave. Some of you need to remember what it was like to be a young professional. I know that's hard for a lot of you. Not only do the partners have great relationships with their clients, but also with all of the staff members. All of KWC's leadership are open to not only listening to but also implementing new ideas from staff members that benefit the company and its personnel. Moreover, the partner group is always looking to improve upon its work processes and workplace flexibility practices and routinely polls the staff members for their input. This includes always looking for the latest technologies available to allow staff to work smarter and more streamlined. Staff members at every level are invited to participate in focus groups that allow them to have a say in the operational direction of the firm. And finally, the type of information you can never find out without actually working someplace for awhile and being alongside all of the firm's personnel: everyone here is pleasant to be around and have great relationships with everyone else. Having been in a variety of firms myself, a con to many could be the firm's size. But therein lies opportunities that entry level staff and recent graduates may overlook as they are being recruited by large national firms: to get in on the ground level of a firm that is growing rapidly and has the right culture in place to ensure a lucrative career for those willing to take the path less traveled. Salaries on par with Big 4 firms, but less hours required. Company recently moved into very nice office space a few blocks from their old location. Great advancement potential. Independent alliance member with BDO, so access to big firm CPE, training, and technical resources. Not much out of state travel, if that's what you are looking for. So many things. Nepotism probably ranks top here. You've got 4 kids working for 3 of the partners, 3 of which are accountants. 2 of those accountants work directly for their parents. The non-accountant is her daddy's EA. None of the other partners HAVE EAs. They have people in management positions who have no business managing staff. Not much experience in niche areas. People (some of mgmt) treat staff like crap. No feedback is ever given - if it was, it was NOT constructive criticism. Quite a bit behind the back bashing while praising them to their faces - so much for the 'oh-so-friendly' place to work. One partner here likes to stir things up rather than resolve things quietly. Reviews are not conducive to a person's growth in their career. Office space is kind of a dump for a professional firm (in particular, carpets look disgusting). Most firms want you to FEEL at home, as you spend a lot of time in those four walls. This place however, doesn't like it when you socialize. Not socialize as in spending 30 minutes chitchatting and wasting time, I mean a simple 'hi how was your weekend' is rarely heard.
