Holds a promising product and vision with considerable potential for success. Execution of the company’s vision appears disorganized, lacking a coherent direction. Frequent restructuring within product and strategy departments leads to instability and uncertainty, hindering progress and creating frustration among employees. Instances of employees feeling unsafe or intimidated are not adequately addressed, with individuals facing repercussions for expressing concerns. This creates a toxic work environment that stifles creativity and collaboration. Employee well-being initiatives, such as unlimited PTO, parental leave and other extended leave, are overshadowed by a culture of layoffs and disregard for personal time. Employees hesitate to take advantage of these benefits out of fear of being targeted for layoffs or facing negative consequences upon their return. Diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts appear superficial, with marginalized groups disproportionately affected by layoffs and demotions. This undermines the company’s commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace and diminishes trust among employees. Management keeps juggling words at the townhalls and pivoting at the slightest market indication of where demand is. The retaliatory culture is so toxic that you can get the vibe during the interviews. This business really seems to struggle with an identity which makes for incredibly difficult working conditions. I think the 2 big issues is that they have failed to find a real market fit and have kind of turned into a consulting firm that pretends to be a product company and they hire talent from very established orgs that do not know how to work in a start up environment (i.e. they cannot build anything, don't know how to work toward Product-Market fit, etc). If I had to boil it down, there is a lot of micromanagement and pressure from above from people who really don't know how to operate without structure nor how to navigate the company to the structure. Toxic may be a generous word for this organization. It’s interesting that the ones that look alike are the ones they retain. Dare not have a difference of opinion and you will quickly find yourself on the outside. Some have said mean girls club but I would suggest it’s a bunch of entitled men who could care less about the people. They literally ask people to read false narratives during their layoffs. In addition, they parade this fake Executive Coach in front of the people. Her job is to call out your name during zooms and chats in effort to make you feel special. Your mental health and wellbeing should come first when choosing a workplace and this employer failed to create a conducive workplace where you can be yourself and have an opinion. There is constant burnout from unrealistic goals and to add to the fact that the layoffs had impacted teams negatively, giving everybody more work than we can manage. Leaders are narcistic and selfish, delegating the chunk of the work to subordinates whilst praising themselves at these townhalls.
