Fiscally responsible company with a solid product
|
|
Stability/Fiscal Responsibility:
- Leadership is very fiscally responsible and has earned a high level of trust amongst employees because of it
- The company is efficient; the team is modestly-sized compared to its age and market share, speaking further to its financial responsibility. There has been no ill-advised hypergrowth phase.
- Even in this economic climate, LeanData has fared better than most tech companies in terms of retention and new business. Having worked at companies where retention was hovering at 50% some quarters, LeanData's high retention rate is impressive to me.
Product/Tech:
- The company invests in its product and it pays off. LeanData's platform is the leader in the space for good reason -- it works extremely well and new features are constantly being released.
- LeanData has a cult-like customer following because of how good the product is. Champions continually come back to purchase LeanData through new jobs and organizations
- Great tech stack/equipment that makes our jobs easier
- The team really values customer feedback and builds the product accordingly
Culture/Balance:
- Leadership is transparent about the direction of the company and product
- Remote-friendly (depending on the team you are on; some teams are hybrid)
- Lately, there's been a focus on building a flatter organizational structure to facilitate agility
- Lots of employees have been at the company for many years, which speaks to overall employee satisfaction
- Frequent promotions and opportunity for career growth
|
While being fiscally responsible is of course a positive thing overall, it can be a change if you're used to working at company that burns cash on frivolous or fun things. The biggest bummer under the fiscal responsibility umbrella is that there is no 401k matching at this time (the benefits are otherwise good).

Consider 401k matching; I know this has been addressed before in all-hands, so I know it's on the radar :)

Great company to work for.
|
|
Extremely well run company. They are frugal organization and don't waste money, which means they watch the top and bottom line closely. Fantastic leadership, great employees. Fantastic office environment in Santa Clara. Very patient and supportive company who invest heavily in their employees. They also have a very loyal customer base because the products they sell produce a clear ROI that is very attractive to all companies. Everyone in the company is approachable and everyone supports everyone across all departments and teams. Zero egos at the company. I really enjoyed working at LeanData. They try different GTM strategies for good periods of time and are not afraid to make extensive changes if they don't work out to keep the company on track.
|
None. However if you are used to lose budgets and expenses this isn't the company for you. It's a really well run company that focuses on profitability.

It's a very strong executive team. As soon as the company can afford it they need to offer some form of 401k match. Other than that, benefits are great. Keep innovating product offerings as the solutions are very popular with their loyal customers. You have great people in all departments, continue to be flexible with them and they'll continue to produce wonders for the long term. You're building a great company with a fantastic culture.

Problematic Leadership
|
|
-The best part about LeanData are the passionate customers. LeanData's customers love the core product and are engaged with helping the company make it a winning tool.
-The product makes a huge impact in RevOps Teams, and this is exciting to be a part of.
-The Engineering/Product organization plans really fun outings, dinners, and activities.
|
If I knew what I know now, I would not have accepted the APM role at LeanData for the following reasons:
-There always seemed to be tension, stress, and unspoken political agendas within the C-Level Suite, which unfortunately trickled down to the rest of the company (especially the Product Team).
-The Product Team did not have a collaborative, supportive, or open-minded culture. The Product Team was filled with stress (not in the exciting start-up culture way), with all A/PMs trying to please the CPO/CTO/VP of Eng.
-Product Leadership prioritized deadlines over quality of work.
-The Product Team rarely had retros.
-The Product Team treated C-Level Prod/Eng Leadership as the customer instead of the actual end-user (my guess is because C-Level Prod/Eng Leadership had inflexible pressure from CEO).
-In order to succeed as a PM, you needed to build solely what Prod/Eng Leadership wanted you to build. New ideas were shot down the majority of the time; this is not a good place if you want to innovate or be supported in thinking outside of the box. As a result, the product has a poor UX, and the implementation process is extremely complicated and not scalable.
-APMs are expected to produce at a level that far exceeds that of an APM (this is according to the APM/PM/Sr. PM Rubric that LeanData wrote).
-Prod/Eng Leadership would often undermine less-senior women PMs by dismissing ideas, or having them present in a meeting but being asked to not actually provide input.
-Feedback by Product and Engineering Leadership was often delivered in a demeaning, passive-aggressive, or condescending tone.

-Give all managers more training and resources to be good coaches. -C-Level Leadership: Let go of control, and foster trust in your employees in order to create a collaborative work environment.
-Create psychological safety in the workplace.
-Create a culture of managers asking for feedback.
For the success of LeanData and the great routing product, I fear that if LeanData does not implement some of these changes (and more), another company will come along that does have these values, and will out-innovate LeanData. Good luck!

Disorganized & poor leadership
|
|
They've had a good standing as far as culture but they've been on a downward decline since 2023.
|
They've let go of the entirety of their female leadership, and has made continuous decisions that is disadvantageous for most of their sales reps. The revenue team is not communicative or transparent in process changes and do not keep their employees in mind when making decisions that directly affect pay for their reps. All in all, it seems that they've lost sight in doing right by their employees and focusing only on the bottom line.
