Overall, a great company led by great leaders. Fast paced environment often pushes employees to focus on outcomes and not the process. There are no pros of this toxic place. Office politics dominates the entire culture at Lightspeed. If you're not favored, you have zero room for growth and your skills and contributions are not recognized in the least bit. There is a lack of diversity within certain departments and pay is way below industry standard. Management is not as transparent as they claim to be and the second you decide to leave the company, you are viewed as turning your back on them. For a company that plays up it's "culture" and "wonderful people," the actual treatment of employees is a complete joke, stemming from the highly disorganized, incompetent, and unprofessional hiring process all the way through to your last day on the job. The HR department in particular needs a whole lot of work. Please practice some much-needed self-reflection. I would not waste my time with this joke of a company. I've been working at Lightspeed Systems for a little over a year now, and I have nothing but good things to say about this place. They offer so much knowledge base to learn. Also, Everyone here at Lightspeed Systems is very approachable. Management will go the extra mile for their employees, and they will help you at all times. I've been here for a year, and I plan on making a career here at Lightspeed Systems. After all, our mission statement means the world to me. The organization lacks a safe space to express frustration or even disappointment. Every day it feels like you're pushed a bit more to change who you are as a person. Compensation is subpar and borderline unethical in some regards. When the team discusses this; there is a clear divide that is uncomfortable. If you bring up issues or concerns, you could get fired or shown the door. There is a lack of diversity within certain departments and no concrete efforts are made to hire people of color. Management is not as transparent as they claim to be and the second you decide to leave the company, you are viewed as turning your back on the company. There are plenty of nice humans. 401k match is nice. I imagine Westrum would describe it as a bureaucratic organizational culture: low cooperation, novelty is not appreciated, and teams build walls to shield themselves from others. Many people have stuck around for decades and seem cynical, including leadership. Diversity on the engineering team is not a priority. I did not work with a single woman. Teams are not cross-functional and there are bureaucratic walls in the way of productivity. Much of the team is quiet and passive, but then there's the one overly assertive person who steamrolls everyone with their preferred ideas. Tasks are poorly defined, resulting in clumsy and frustrating re-work. PRs are often giant multi-day code dumps, review latency is high, and some just seem to drag on forever. Some PRs sit open and rot indefinitely. Slack is a ghost town. Engineering management is MIA. Standup meetings feel weirdly infantilizing because the scrum master reads everyone's updates for them. PTO is stingy.
