I have utmost respect for the people that make up the Limelight Health leadership team. They are humble, caring, respectful, listen to their employees and above all else bring a ton of invaluable experience and leadership to the company.
The flexibility at Limelight is unparalleled. You have the freedom to work from anywhere in the nation, and in some cases the world. As long as you get your work done and use your best judgment, the paid time off policy is in the employee's favor and is very much respected amongst team members if you decide to go off the grid. I have been doing it for 5 years now.

To me, the unpredictability of a startup is what makes working at one fun. There is guaranteed pivoting, strategic updates every 6 months, role changes and tons of new hires. This all makes being a part of the Limelight team anything but mundane, but at the same time can be seen as a negative.
The biggest pain point I’d say, something that is known and currently being addressed, is realistic goal setting and project scope. Of course, this is something that comes naturally when building a company from the ground up, but an issue nonetheless.

Limelight has experienced rapid growth without loosing sight of its values. The team and culture are amazing. Everyone genuinely cares for their peers and encourages each other daily to do our best work. The feeling is more like family than co-workers while still being professional. We trust each other to perform as expected and there are lots of opportunities to learn and stretch yourself. Limelight is still small enough where individuals can have a major impact.

A lot of work and tight deadlines that can at times feel overwhelming. Not enough time spent celebrating the wins before we have to hit the next deadline. Fairly steep learning curve due to the complexity of the industry.

Limelight has a very professional yet very personable group of employees. The culture is more like friends than work in my opinion. With that, the expectations for performance are high, as they ought to be. The work is varied and challenging, which makes things interesting and enjoyable. There are opportunities to learn, grow, and expand your skillset.

Ongoing context switching can be a hindrance to productivity. Due to rapid growth, there are currently many changes taking place in the management structure. This is necessary and expected, however.

The Emperor Has No Clothes...

Despite the CEOs claims of “it being a wonderful place to work”, I disagree. Don’t get me wrong, most of the employees at Limelight are honest, hardworking human beings and this company have potential. However, it’s limited by the CEOs lack of professional experience and narrow business skill set. He is not a bad person and at one time was probably the right guy for the job; however, the current demands of the business far exceed his leadership and management competencies. To his credit, he’s an adept fundraiser/business promoter; but, raising money/sitting on industry panel discussions and actually leading/managing an experienced team that consistently generates results requires very different skills. General insecurities and lack of trust (for himself and those around him) prevent him from seeing things objectively and those with differing opinions are generally dismissed. Maybe this explains the high turn over in the past 2+ years, especially in the last 12-months. To further complicate an almost non-existent culture, he freely admits to being a subpar communicator and this weakness permeates the organization in many dysfunctional ways. Poor expectation setting, often making and then breaking commitments without warning or discussion (with employees & customers!), giving directives to employees without conferring or notifying their immediate manager (causing confusion/conflict between manager and employee), telling very different versions of a story (depending on his audience), blaming others for his mistakes or miscommunication, leading with passive-aggressive behavior because he’s unskilled at giving direct feedback and dealing with any type of conflict. To sum it up; The Peter Principle applies here. Until he is replaced (or steps down) with a skilled/competent CEO, seek work somewhere else. There are many great start-ups and tech companies in the Silicon Valley/Bay Area, many former Limelighters are now thriving at these organizations.
