CEO does not care about forcing employees to be exposed to Covid. - CEO openly praised greed as a virtue during a recent company-wide meeting, bragged about profits and runway, then a week later laid off ~38 people, including high-performing engineers. - Senior management keeps trying "fun" exercises like summer camp-themed team bandana colors, but it just ends up feeling like a poorly masked way to micromanage and hyper-optimize teams. There are some great people that work for this company, which is pretty similar to almost any company that exists. It's a nice generic way of saying "this company has issues". The company is focused on making the rich even richer. The end result is a mediocre investment platform that hasn't seen major updates 2018. You have a crypto platform that was abandoned as soon as the crypto market collapsed (which was predictable, how leadership didn't have the conviction to see this through is just another sign of their incompetence). There was a checking account but that has since been closed in favor of a savings account that we cannot support because leadership failed to do their appropriate due diligence. We also have a personal loans product that is used by 3 people. Oh, and we have a credit card which has a similar customer base to our personal loans. As you can see M1 lacks an actual vision. After working with the CEO for years it has become clear he doesn't know what he is doing and Softbank has already written off their investment. If you are looking to join M1 you should expect your stock options to be worthless. While the company is still saying it's worth over a billion dollars that was back in 2021 prior to the market corrections and it has since become worth only a fraction of that. If you are still interested in joining, as long as you are a white male you should have an alright time here. If you are any other gender or race I would strongly advise against it. There are senior leaders that are responsible for running entire business lines that are capable of committing sexual harassment and being xenophobic in the same sentence. As you might expect this same person is also a prime example of "what not to do at holiday parties" and from their actions at this year's holiday party it is clear that they will never be fired or even reprimanded. I think we still preach about DEI on our careers page, please don't be fooled, DEI doesn't exist here. The compensation is mediocre, there aren't any bonuses and the stock options will continue to be worthless. Health premiums continue to rise as employees are blamed for making too many claims. You do get unlimited vacation time but good luck using that as we continue to support 12 different products with half of the employees we had 2 years ago. How we haven't had a major security incident is a miracle. I suppose one positive as a job seeker when it comes to M1 is that we continue to layoff employees. Limited efforts beyond sponsored Happy Hours, with observed instances of racism and sexism in the workplace. - Limited Career Growth and Unfulfilled Promises: Career development is limited, with promotions favoring those willing to kiss up to senior management. Layoffs and restructuring contradict CEO promises and forcing employees into tasks and career paths unrelated to their skills and interests. - Manipulative HR Practices and Inauthentic Reviews: HR actively solicits positive reviews, compromising authenticity. Scheduled meetings coerce employees to write positive reviews, contributing to misleading representations. - Ineffective C-Level Leadership and Lack of Direction: C-level leadership's unclear direction and communication result in a product lacking a cohesive vision.
