Most new employees are fooled into believing the draw system they've signed up for is beneficial and financial gain is easy to come by. Job flow is not there and you are quickly forced into the red where you stay for the entirety of your employment. If you leave with a draw balance, they send you a 1099 at the end of the year to cover the taxes not paid. If you are lucky enough to receive a commission check, the amount paid is often times incorrect, withheld or not distributed at all. You are in a toxic environment a majority of the time and walk on eggshells for fear of being reprimanded. The owner of the company is known to have violent outbursts that have been known to include cussing and throwing objects. Any error or mistake is your fault and no one else's. Period. If you ask a question, you may be considered stupid and not worth further consideration. The way you are dressed or the way you look is constantly a topic of conversation and there is no HR to go to if inappropriate comments are made. The owner is also known to have affairs/sleep with employees and for a violent temper outside of the office. Feel free to conduct a "party inquiry" search on the Harris County Arrest Records website. Many marriages/relationships have been ruined by poor workplace conduct. They truly take pride in their work both on the client and candidate side. MR has a reputation for getting the job done well and that shows in how the recruiters tackle any concerns or problems that may arise within their searches. The owner of the company, Chris Schoettelkotte, is one of the most bigoted men I have ever met. When I was hired as a new recruiter with my only experience being in internal recruiting, I was told that I would be trained by Chris himself and that he was so excited to have me on board. However, he had no intention of training me and instead used our "training" time to discuss his love life - which was an extremely dramatic and inappropriate story line of events. Within the first week of being there, he used the weekly staff meeting as a forum in which to tell me, and everyone else who attended, how terrible I was at my job and continually asked me if I was too stupid to understand the process. Keep in mind, I had had no training. From the small amount of time I spent at MR, it was clear that Chris was fantastic at both his job and hiring top talent. However, his leadership skills and inability to manage without being inappropriate or bullying creates a harsh environment that most professionals would not choose to stay in. The staff was so kind and welcoming, and generally pleasant to be around, except for the President and the CEO. Since I've left thought there are only 2 people I know who still work there. The CEO, Chris Schoettelkotte, is a verbally abusive psychopath. He is horribly insecure and childish. Our weekly meetings were spent having him single out certain individuals and screaming at them and picking on them. It seemed he had a new target each week, and would berate them for 5 days and then move on to the next victim. Unless you this one employee who worked there for 15 years, because he was accosted every single day until he finally had enough and walked out. Then they brought in the President, Ali, who came in as a consultant and within 1 month we were having a meeting about how he was making her the president of the company. She is dreadfully disliked by everyone in the office and talks poorly about everyone behind their backs. She is a true snake in the grass. There aren't any good reasons to work at Manhattan Resources, unfortunately. Beware. If you interview with him, he will charm you like a snake. He is a snake and he will brag about himself for hours on end. Chris is his own biggest fan. Beware. Beware. Beware. Please know that any good reviews were written by Chris or someone close to him. Chris is shady, selfish, he yells at everyone and respects no one. He does not want his employees doing better than him and will tell you that you can't out-bill him. He backstabs his own employees. He is only out for himself and acts like a child. He has tantrums and fits in the office and will talk down to people in meetings. He is not an emotional healthy human and is not an emotionally healthy person to work for at all. There is a reason that most of his employees left one year leaving him with some untalented recruiters. Chris is all talk, he likes to brag about himself to employees, candidates and hiring authorities. He is completely inappropriate and unprofessional. Beware, beware, beware of this evil human being. The methodology they use to fulfill their clients’ needs is top notch and you will gain valuable knowledge working here. Very nice co-workers, ask questions and anyone will be willing to help you. Leadership team has gone through some changes in the last few years and they are very helpful and hands on. If you are new in the industry, they will guide you through the process step by step until you feel comfortable managing a search on your own. Listen and ask questions, and you will succeed. Chris, the owner gives the opportunity to anyone that really wants to succeed. Be ready to work hard. You must be able to follow the process without taking shortcuts and meet the required metrics by the end of the week. Leadership does not micro-manage, but they will hold you accountable so you need to be on top of your game. Technology, good clients, good co-workers, good comp plan, profit sharing DO NOT WORK HERE if you want a career. But if you do go for it, read the reviews on here that are real and consider yourself warned. The owner yells, changes his mind every day and is generally unstable. He keeps everyone off balance and is a terrible employer. His clients respect him because he gets the job done and is very business savvy and smart but they do not know him as a person. He is a master manipulator and this was the worst work experience I have ever had. Ever. And I have worked at some terrible companies. This was a whole other level. He talks down to everyone. He brings his personal life to the office every day and discloses things that happen to him personally to his entire staff but tells everyone not to tell but we all knew he was doing it. He is terrible. He has employees that are his puppets and everyone is actually scared of him. He is completely unliked by his staff from the things I was told while I was there but they all pretend to like him. But they say horrible things when he isn't around. I can't tell you how many times I walked downstairs with someone that was upset and had to get out of there because something Chris said to them. This isn't a good work environment and if Chris worked in a large corporation that he didn't own, he would be fired and sued. I know someone still there and the stories are unbelievable. Not sure how, but Chris has an amazing group of people working for him. They will be your support when dealing with Chris's outbursts and attacks. Leadership is severely lacking. If you like being yelled at in meetings and only being judged by the amount of calls you make in the day, than this is the place for you. If you come from an environment that is professional, you will not fit in here. Constant inappropriate comments that border on sexual harassment, an inability to listen or care about employees and a leadership team that can not ever change the environment they are in because they are held back by an owner who refuses to step back. Let's put it this way, the company was established 17 years ago and only 1 employee that has been around since then.
