Pre-COVID there were yearly ski-trips and other fun activities. They even bring people who don't work there anymore on ski trips. Slack for ex-employees who want to keep in touch and I made some good friends here. Feels like you make a difference in the work you do in your day to day. Had disagreements with my manager that led to me leaving that were entirely understandable in hindsight. We seem to be gaining a lot of ground in the industry and its interesting to see many employees come to Mark43 who used to work at competitors, it makes me feel like Mark43 is a better company and place to work than others in the industry. Company is moving to a hybrid remote structure and is being really flexible about working locations even after Covid. Compared to a lot of companies we did not seem to be hit as hard from the pandemic and everything feels pretty secure. We signed some big deals last year which makes me feel even more comfortable about our financial runway. We've been told that we are going to be doing a lot of hiring this year which I guess is good but will add interviewing to everyones workload. Everyone is definitely busy and I would not recommend coming here if you are looking for some easy job to coast in. It's also been hard working in the policing industry given the ongoing racial and systemic issues that plague our society. I'm constantly having to remind my self that our mission is to improve public safety for communities and that our work will ultimately make a positive impact on the way policing is done in this country. The company is not as diverse as I would like but it seems like over the past year or so we've made big steps in creating a more diverse team. The company is stretched really thin with expanding to Australia and a lot of users dislike the product in America already dislike the product. There's also a concerted PR push to try and minimize damage and give the company a nice sheen with how much people hate the CEO, his policies, and his office behavior. I do like working here to some extent, really, but some of the things they sweep under the rug here are not really appropriate. The people who have worked and are still working at this company are what make it an amazing place to be employed. The Mission - Instead of building the next social media image filter or optimizing ad revenue I could work on a complex system bridging human interaction, hardware and software. An improvement of minutes or even seconds from when a dispatcher receives a call to the first responder appearing on scene could save lives. 2. The Business - Government software is a notoriously difficult space to break into. That effort is rewarded with high value contracts with long terms that are favorable to building a strong long lasting partnership with our customers. 3. The People - What stood out to me wasn't the cliche smart, talented, and friendly people you can find that at most companies. It was their commitment to the mission, their professional growth, and their colleagues. Two and a half years later and I have an extremely positive outlook for the growth of the company as well as my own professional growth and look forward to solving difficult technical and business challenges with colleagues across every department. Mark43 employs many former veterans, police officers, and those with family who serve which solidifies our mission as the number one priority. We also understand that in order to innovate and maintain strong partnerships with our customers we need a viable business model. 2019 was our strongest year by far and our momentum is continuing stronger than ever into 2020. My time at Mark43 hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows as there have been plenty of ups and downs no different from any growing company but there has been one constant, leadership listens and responds. At a point when growing pains were at an all time high and the visions of each department didn't fully align our founders made a few key external hires, internal promotions, and shifted responsibilities which lead to a unified company strategy. All of leadership from directors to C Suite including founders are more than willing and actively encourage anyone in the company to meet with them regarding any questions, concerns, or ideas. Much of the government tech is fairly antiquated and sometimes we have to work with it or around it and may not always get to use modern solutions in certain situations such as 3rd party integrations. The products are very complex and require different workflows and requirements often at the state level and sometimes at the county level. This adds to the difficulty in breaking into the market but also makes it more difficult for competitors to enter the market. As the company enters a growth period this is going to require a lot of work across the board from all departments. Most might see these challenges as a con but I see it as one of the most valuable learning opportunities I could experience and not one that comes around often. Used to be a breakout list company. Poor management: executive team has no idea what they’re doing, we can’t hire experienced managers, and apparently can’t train first time managers. Poor products: There have been some really exciting projects building better products, but for the most part “next generation software” literally means one generation ahead of our competitors—had to get used to working on products that could be from 1999.
