Good opportunities exist for those interested in pursuing positions in the realm of social media or video production. The company killed off its magazine and pivoted completely to video and socials. It's an understandable decision in the current climate of media. But, it truly tarnishes the legacy this magazine once had. I can't even take the brand seriously anymore. Saddening. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 2.0 2.0 1.0 2.0 2.0 1.0 415584 Open The higher ups at Mass Appeal should have believed in the magazine and also creating more substantial content. The brand won't survive with just YouTube clicks and gaining followers on Twitter/IG. Other media companies can make similar content and more. 0.0 [] PART_TIME No No 0.0 Mar 20th, 2021 06:40PM Mar 20th, 2021 06:40PM Mass Appeal Consumer Services Media

Pantry snacks provided throughout the day. Music is played throughout the main area. Celebrities + limited social events. Here popularity and culture trumps experience. The atmosphere calls for followers not leaders since there is in fact a since of entitlement at the company. Interns aren't introduced properly, more so thrown in to the environment to assist with busy work which is mostly self taught. Doesn't feel like a "mentorship," as advertised during the interview. While you can choose between working 2,3 or 4 times a week, hours are extremely long (9-6) with only being paid $25 a day; there are some days where there is no work to do. Most interns usually leave before the end date due to value (degrees-experience) or simply unhappiness. Lastly, please be aware that not every intern gets hired due to not having the "look" or "personality" which to some is completely subjective. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 1.0 1.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1435882 Open Be more of a mentor to your interns. private:massappeal https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=415584 Aug 1st, 2017 12:00AM Open Open Mass Appeal United States USA Growing, with a lot of pain Fairly relaxed work environment, If you love rap and rappers, the office is full of both, great office location, free snacks and monthly catered meal, there's potential for the company to grow a lot - but not necessarily you. Terrible at hiring proper employees - the company too often puts culture before experience, which leaves the rest of the office to pick up the slack of those who shouldn't have been hired in the first place. There's an underlying theme in how this company operates - shoot first, ask questions later. The management too often will promise the world to a client, when the project doesn't have enough money to pay for it, leaving (once again) the employees working harder and longer to keep the false promises their management made - but with no benefit to the people doing the work - only those who made the deals and the clients themselves. Basically, there's a slightly false image of the company caring about the culture and employees more than their profits, or more than similar companies - but this isn't true, and Mass Appeal is just like any other SoHo Creative Office... it's always about the money first, partners second, managers third, and then whatever else is left can go to the people doing the work. 1.0 POSITIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL -1.0 DISAPPROVE 2.0 3.0 2.0 3.0 3.0 2.0 2.0 415584 Open You guys are growing rapidly, which is great, so you need to really sit down, take some breaths, and think about your employees, old and new and be 100% transparent in how your growth affects everyone, but also let your people know what their path looks like in the company and what they (and you) need to do to ensure that path is good for both parties. 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 0.0 Mar 20th, 2021 06:40PM Mar 20th, 2021 06:40PM Mass Appeal Consumer Services Media

Everyone I worked with has been let go or left because the magazine/blog is going down the drain. Was miserable working there and glad that I moved on. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 1.0 2.0 4.0 2.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 1435882 Open 0.0 [] INTERN No No 0.0 Mar 20th, 2021 06:40PM Mar 20th, 2021 06:40PM Mass Appeal Consumer Services Media

Snacks constantly stocked, open environment useful for creating and sharing ideas to build the brand. Apple products for all your computing needs. The lack of communication between the partners, CEO, and those doing the ground work is horrendous. There is no room for suggesting methods of improvement without being reprimanded. 1.0 3.0 2.0 2.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 1435882 Open Pay attention to your staff, and pay them properly instead of funneling money to the higher ups who just push the ideas the ground staff create.
