Leadership Issues Were Hurting The Company Way Before COVID Hit
|
I will start off by saying that the benefits at McJ are great, especially if you are single. Health insurance covered, flex-time, a ton of PTO, and more.
That being said, McJ has some serious, long-standing management issues that were hitting its peak even before the COVID pandemic hit, which seems to be convincing many employees, myself included, to jump ship. The executive team is completely clueless on how to communicate goals and expectations and to ensure quality work and consistency. For years, I felt like I was just yelling into the void about significant process issues that were greatly affecting my team's ability to service the agency and our clients well, and I often left work feeling like I accomplished nothing and was uncertain whether I had completed my tasks correctly. There was many a one-on-one that ended with me in tears, and I eventually found myself in therapy because of the stress I felt on a daily basis.
The agency likes to make a lot of proclamations about how it has such an amazing and fun culture, but what used to be very comfortable and welcoming and family-like is now really fake, stressful, and confusing. It seems like everything has become focused on making the headlines or following trends instead of creating something unique and different, and progress or improvements are slow moving or shot down regularly. My favorite excuse that I've heard for not implementing certain process improvements was, "That's just not how we do things here."
Leadership will ask for their teams to go over and beyond the scope of their job regularly, especially if it's seen as an opportunity for new business. This wouldn't be a problem if they recognized the hard work of their teams whether it be through company acknowledgements, promotions, spot bonuses, etc. Obviously I bring this up because that's exactly what they don't do, which is another reason why I often felt unappreciated and taken for granted.

Benefits are great, flexible work schedules, casual workspace
|
Major management issues, culture has changed for the worse, lack of acknowledgement, overall dysfunction

Unbelievable Difficult & Hard to Work With Upper Management
|
The absolute worst communication from management I have ever experienced. On paper, McGarrah Jessee is a well-defined, structured machine. In real life, they are falling apart. Their offices are split between two buildings, and they are clinging on to a past that does not exist any more (culturally). Expect very tight knit, and unwelcoming friend groups, unless you fit in to their "image".
There will be no advancing unless you are manipulative and willing to put others down, or get rid of them, to advance yourself. I saw it happen multiple times.

Collaborative place with high level of design

It's a great place to work with a great attention to graphic design. However, like many advertising agencies the agency seems to have a hard time keeping up with technology and progressive advertising trends.

Great Experience
|
This was a Freelance work for Stadia Marketing,McGarrah Jessee is Stadia's client. The project is on brand health study for a Texas based bank.
It was a great experience as I resumed my career after a 3 years gap.
I learned managing the task independently. It was a challenge to complete the task within a deliverable time period without senior guidance after a long career break.
