I’ve seen some reviews here and some things I agree with: Pay raises aren’t guaranteed. One guy said he went 3 years without one and everybody depended on him, that surprised me. Conservative business model no doubt. Yes, the owners are married and from another culture. I found them to be nice and well intentioned. It seemed pretty clear that you simply made sure she liked you (compliment anything from her department and anything she organizes to benefit company culture). It was interesting the effort spent on trying to make everyone like the “culture” and everyone totally saw through it, but that’s the game. I don’t get how some reviews seem so scathing. This is a small company. It has been for like 30 years, it’s not a bank or major company. If you like your starting salary, get the game with ownership and simply do your job, it’s like any other job. I’ve worked in different parts of the country, for really good and really bad ceos, general managers, owners. There is nothing to fear about taking a position at this little company. Keep your expectations minimal, you won’t get rich quick, enjoy the incredibly laid back environment and from time to time, pretend logic doesn’t matter. People don’t seem to be genuinely hateful or ill meaning and I was paid a fair salary, on time with a pleasant work environment. You can be successful if you are assertive and not afraid to work outside of your job description. Salary is not competitive. Communication needs work. Team members and peers are very nice and willing to help even across departments. They are pushing to grow through partnerships and by trying interesting new things. Relaxed work environment with a relaxed dress code, semi-flexible hours depending on team/department, and a kitchen area with drinks. Great growth opportunities in a few departments for recent graduates especially if you enjoy furniture and home accessories. Managers/decision makers can be a bit detached, which is noticed in a few departments. For a smaller company communication, even within the department, is scarily lacking and left for major surprises that effected groups of employees without them having notice. Some departments are ok doing things the way they’ve always been done without any time investment in moving forward which can lead to falling behind. Some products are scalable and growth oriented while others are not. You can hit a ceiling, sometimes quickly, in growth & development. Don’t believe it. It is not Lied to about salary. Much of my compensation was based on performance bonuses- which were measured quarterly and changed monthly. After 9 months there, I didn’t receive a dollar of bonus monies. A friend was hired a well below market rate, for a 3 month trial. 18 months later, they were still working at the trial rate, despite being a team lead. 60-70 hour work weeks. And on a 10 hour work day, I still had to take vacation time for a 2 hour doctors appointment. Often abusive work environment full of gaslighting. Why didn’t you do X?
