Only friends of the Management team get advancement opportunities. Everyone else is looked over. (Favortism) This company sets quotas for number of donors making for a very stressful environment. Lots of turnover. Some free lunches, Bonus if we meet our quota Long hours, stressful working conditions, too many meetings on days off. A typical day at Mid-America Transplant Services includes receiving the shift report from the day shift, logging into the various systems that are necessary to perform my duties, taking referrals from hospitals and medical examiners, speaking with families regarding donation, executing a 49 question interview via phone with the most knowledgeable person to the donor, screening medical charts and interview answers with tissue processors, updating funeral homes, hospitals, and medical examiners regarding recovery status, uploading necessary files into the donor's electronic record, and providing shift report to the incoming shift. From my employment with Mid-America Transplant Services (MTS), I learned how the unfortunate loss of one person can provide so much hope to the lives of many others. Organ, Tissue and Eye donation can benefit many and the demand is tremendous. Through the various seminars they provided and sponsored our attendance, I learned the processes and procedures involved in the recovery process. Our management team at MTS are dedicated to our mission, innovation and employee retention. Being a transparent cooperation, management transmit information to us on a daily basis via staff/department meetings, email or our intranet. The management team is interested in the well being of each employee. They make it a point to know each employee by name and are open to us speaking with them at anytime via in person, call, or email. My co-workers are an essential part of getting the job done and making my job enjoyable. We all have the same goal: saving or enhancing the lives of others through organ or tissue donation. Working with them is like one big family, where everyone is respectful and cares about each other. The hardest part of the job is having to speak with families about donation immediately after they have lost a loved one. Many feel that they have not had enough time to grieve. After informing them that there are time constraints for donations, they are more understanding. The most enjoyable part of the job is bringing hope to the grieving families. The mission of the company is felt in every aspect of our day to day duties and every day we leave work knowing that we helped save lives. The company is also very active in making sure that the employers are taken care of through amazing benefits and workplace activities and events. Management is very involved with our day to day task and have an open line of communication. We complete monthly roundings with management where we are free to discuss any positive or negative aspects of the job and if action is needed to be taken then you feel confident that it will be. The job can be stressful at times, not because of the work involved, but because you talking with grieving families on a daily basis and you can feel their pain. At the end of the day, however, you are helping them to help another family from going through the same type of loss.
