Great People, Major Ops Issues

By far, the people. Coworkers who become friends and eventually family. That's really what keeps most with the company. The culture was exceptional... though many foresee it changing.
|
Now part of a large, public conglomerate, therefore losing the small business feel. Communication has suffered as company has grown. Culture is changing for the worse - everyone seems to fear the future of their job. Operationally the company has really suffered and its leading to long term damage with customers. Little to no upward mobility.

Communicate communicate communicate. Don't lose the small business mentality we excelled with for years, and that our customers have come to expect. Know that while fixing the operational issues, you will have turnover, particularly the longer it takes. Invest in engineering - don't settle as a market follower or responder. Start implementing professional development plans to give employees a voice and something to work towards. Every single person should have a career path set when they join the company, that is considered and discussed on their annual review.

Fun, growing place to work

Milestone is a growing company, with strong ownership that is investing in the organization on many levels. The headquarters in Eden Prairie and the new Operations Center in Shakopee are both nice facilities. Milestone hires for personality, and there are very few "bad eggs", which makes it a fun place to work. Investments in culture and team-building also make for a fun working environment. Company invests in employees to make sure everyone has the best tools to do their job. Milestone has a strong record of promoting from within, and challenges its employees to wear many hats and solve problems. Milestone and it's family of brands is extremely well-regarded in the AV industry, and the future seems bright.

Growing pains exist on the Operations and IT sides of the business, but recent leadership changes in both those groups seems like positive change. Brand teams are still sorting out what structure best fits the needs of the organization, and work too much in isolation of each other. Some teams seem better motivated than others, and new product development often moves at a glacial pace. HR has historically seemed out of touch with the business, and definitely isn't the primary culture driver in the organization. Senior leadership is increasingly distant from the brand teams, which is an inevitable downfall of a growing organization. Medical Benefits are below average for a company of Milestone's size.

More regular communication about the state of the business would be appreciated by many; especially those that aren't in roles that regularly are exposed to sales numbers. Spend more time connecting the brand teams together, so that they don't operate in such distinct silos. Invest more in Product Development to get new products & technologies to market faster!

Great Medium-Size company to work for

The company is a good size - big enough to make investments and ensure bills and payroll get handled consistently but small enough that what your efforts and ideas make a difference. Great core group of people that are dedicated to growing the company and making sure that we continue our success. Even though I don't always understand or agree with decisions made by senior management, I believe that they have a high level of integrity and that makes a huge difference.

As we've grown and added new parts of the business, it's harder to get to know the people you work with. Seems that small number of people get considered for new internal opportunities multiple times while others get pigeon-holed.

Don't forget the little guys and their contributions day in and day out. Visit and interact with the common folk. That's what has driven employee satisfaction and retention in the past. New employees don't feel that connection to you.

Reasonable working hours and average benefits. They provide a clean working environment.

Moral and outlook is not good

Laid back environment (too laid back in some areas)

OK benefits
Culture needs to be changed. Can't seem to happen with current upper management. Moral is deteriorating because of this.
Lot of people have great ideas, but don't have the backing to push them up the ladder and get things implemented.
