It has a high standard for its work for clients. It really helps young actuaries learn and grow. It offers very attractive bonus structure which is directly related to billable hours. The good thing is that you can earn much higher than average salary if you work very hard. The location and offices are beautifully constructed, people are busy in a positive way not intentionally rude but eager to get the day started and work accomplished. As a Receptionist, I transferred calls 90% of the time while assisting visitors or ordering corporate lunches and some filing. It was a very easy job most days. My day usually consisted of editing word documents, collecting receipts for expenses, ordering lunches for meetings, scheduling travel and appointments for staff and some other miscellaneous tasks. However, there is zero room for growth for administrative staff. Little to no notice is given when you have to stay late to finish a project because the team waited until end of the day to complete it. Some of the staff is very arrogant, unfriendly and look down on admin staff. Some staff treated myself as merely a janitor... asking me to clean the kitchen, complaining if we were out of specific drinks/snacks and asking me to attend to the dirty bathrooms. "Learned helplessness" is the best way I could describe this behavior. Milliman was a very toxic place to be some days. Other admins are catty and shove undesirable tasks to the youngest admin. Don't question the status quo. The straw that broke the camel's back was when I was told that I needed to train the staff on the new database implementation. My salary was not commensurate to take on that task and I received little to no support from anyone besides our Accounting Manager (also not her job to do this implementation and training). I voiced my concerns over and over to corporate and our internal shareholders on the system errors, lack of staff engagement/participation and my ever-growing workload. I was not met with any sort of compromise. This seems to be a fantastic place to work if you are an Actuary or Consultant, but I would not recommend Milliman to an Administrative Assistant. Worked at Milliman for 11 months. Learned a LOT. Compensation was great. Benefits too. On the downside, I didn’t interview with the people I worked with day to day, except for my direct manager and she was told not to ask me any questions because my work at a competitor was too similar and would be proprietary. So my manager and her boss were disappointed in my skill set from day one because they had not adequately participated in my hiring. In the end, I was put on a performance improvement plan and, though I worked very hard and met everything outlined in the PIP, they let me go anyway. With no severance and right before bonuses were to be distributed. Still think it could have worked but c’est la vie. Everything rolls down hill to this group. The only thing they don't do it is cleanup the restrooms behind people..literally No room for advancement and the culture of the company " White is Right". Depends on which office you are located in. If you are in a satellite office, things can feel lonely and boring. The compensation is better than one can hope for almost anywhere else, but consulting work is not cut out for everyone.
