- Work hard/play hard mentality: we try not to have too many/unnecessary meetings and focus on the work that needs to be done so we can sign off at a decent time and have time for ourselves, hobbies, etc. Like any job, work can be stressful at times, but we do our best to avoid that. Many people at the company have other jobs (i.e. teach yoga on the side, have published books, etc - which is totally fine and encouraged), which is nice to see because it shows they have time for their passions.
- Bi-annual performance review process, which is laid back and more of an open dialogue between you and your manager
- Strong performance is valued and rewarded (opportunities for promotion, compensation increases, mostly depending on work performance and budgets)
- When at the office, a ton of free stuff up for grabs - including high-quality beauty/skincare products, vitamins/supplements, books, candles, essential oils, and more!
- 11 company holidays & generous PTO (in 2020, due to the pandemic, we transitioned to unlimited PTO)
- Flexible hours & WFH policy

- Office in the heart of DUMBO, Brooklyn (can't get better than that!)

- Small teams with very unique roles/ways of working, so when taking time off, there isn't always proper coverage. This results in employees taking time off less or checking in while on vacation, but to some, it's worth it because the positives definitely outweigh the negatives of working at mbg!
- It's sometimes tough to instill process since it's such a laid back environment and everyone prefers to work at their own groove
- Not the most diverse workplace, but hopeful for change
- No bonus structure

The company is constantly expanding, operates across 3 verticals - media, e-commerce and online learning, and all three are growing and providing new opportunities to try new things. The company is still small enough that you know everybody and work with most people and try your hand in each business. mbg is mission-driven and attracts people who believe in it and work hard to achieve the same outcome.

**Please note all the 5-star reviews (where the only Con mentioned is no 401k match) are fake, posted by management!**
I worked here for over a year and witnessed a reality that is far less inspirational than the image the company wants to portray. They care too much about their Instragram page and follower count rather than build something innovative. Overly expensive, white-labeled health supplements and advertising is not going to get this company far.
Only Pro is work/life balance...if you love slaving away for low pay because there's free kombucha (sometimes), then it's the place for you.

- Top heavy: why do they need 2 CEOs, 1 CFO, 1 CTO, 1 Chief Sales Officer (wtf?), 1 President, and a bunch of VPs for a company with only ~40 full-time employees?
- Senior managers (see 1st point) suck up the compensation, so the company relies on cheap labor (fresh grads, freelancers, "contributors") to do the actual work.
- The customer base is composed of affluent Karens and their friends. The company doesn't actually care about making wellness accessible to all. It just publishes what's trendy and high-margin.
- Leadership does not know how to manage and scale a business; believes cutting freelancers and paid marketing to save a few grand is a win.

It’s mostly a facade, takes a toll on your mental health
|

- There were a handful of quality and talented people in various departments that were a delight to work with.
|
- A company focused on health and wellness where free yoga or fitness classes were offered in office weekly but out of 35+ employees maybe 3 people took part per week. What a joke. People don’t even have the time to take a 30 minute break in their workdays or they could care less about taking care of themselves physically.
- There were some younger employees who made situations dramatic and uncomfortable regularly because of their immature attitude or entitled responses.
- It was rare that any department took the time to truly understand what the members of another department really did which led to regular gossip and blame being put on various individuals.
- The office setup was less than ideal due to a few louder mouthed employees who couldn’t keep quiet for long and seemed to enjoy loudly professing their personal or professional problems to most of the office on a daily basis.
- There were a couple of employees who were constantly negative, judgmental, and two-faced to other colleagues. Team spirit, real support for one another, and overall morale was not something that MBG did well.
- The CEOs were somewhat socially awkward and uncomfortable to be around, that should be a red flag from the start because a lot of things are affected from the top down.
- The kitchen area was pretty gross most of the time, like no one would wash their dishes after using them and they would pile up ridiculously to be left for the nightly cleaning staff to handle. Just disrespectful and lazy.
- The pre sales team was generally disorganized or scattered and often set clients of campaigns up for a rough ride from the start.
- Various departments were under staffed and over worked. And when feedback was given to management about this, people were basically told to suck it up, that there wasn’t the ability to bring on another hire and that they shouldn’t expect an increase in pay even though they were doing the work of multiple people.
- Employees were often talking negatively about other media brands or partners, this was just a weak move to make themselves feel better about MBG I suppose, but it always came across as desperate, jealous, and immature.
- Turnover was a regular occurrence at MBG, another red flag. People wanted to get out because it wasn’t a positive place professionally or personally.
- I would call this place a toxic work environment overall which is so sad seeing as the company’s goal was to make health and wellness more accessible to all. They were far from that within their own 4 walls.

Hire more people that align with the mission of the company. There are too many employees that could care less about health & wellness and it is damaging to the culture and to the message you are trying to make more accessible. Also, hire more mature individuals for the department management and upper management roles - there were too many people with power that just “kept busy”, “had a lot of meetings”, and belittled other employees in word and action, but in reality they didn’t seem to get much done and were basically just there to snatch up all the free products from brands MBG worked with. Be more communicative, transparent, and humble.
