You get told when you're in trouble, and that's pretty much it. This makes you, as an agent, very unprepared when things go wrong...and then, of course, everything is your fault to the customers and to the store partners, because you're the face of the company to them. Part of your job metrics (at least when I was there) pertained to customer satisfaction, and management didn't seem to care enough to filter out reviews that were mad about something that didn't pertain to the agent interaction. The company fails you and then blames you for it. - Little to no leadership. They put people in leadership positions who had no business being there. We needed qualified managers who understood the ins and outs of managing teams and a department, not mean girls who only wanted the status of being a manager but didn't want to do the actual job. - Toxic work environment. The people in middle management created a very toxic environment in which there was a lot of punishment handed down for arbitrary offenses, and nobody felt comfortable working there. - No job security. Management would make up problems or blame you for things outside of your control so they would have an excuse to fire you. - Rampant retaliation. If you pissed someone off you could find yourself being scheduled for less than the minimum threshold to qualify for insurance. - No investment in employees. They want all of you, but only as you are. You're not going to learn anything new or gain any new skills at this job. - No room for growth. Don't expect your supervisors to acknowledge your skills or any good things you do. You will not get a raise, you will not move up. You will stay put, and eventually, you will become so burned out that you won't have the mental capacity to even look for a new job. - No work/life balance. The comments about availability are true. You're expected to give 50+ hours but you don't get scheduled for 40. You can't do things like take time for your daughter's ballet recital or even go to the dentist because you might get scheduled for that time, and you won't find anyone else to swap with. If you can't tell by now, Minibar was and still seems to be a very dishonest company, which is disappointing. It could have been great. I don't think there's anything salvageable here. If you're reading this as a potential applicant, move on. If you're reading this as an overworked employee who doesn't get paid enough to respond to anonymous complaints online, I really hope you find something better soon. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 917096 Open It's really obvious that a company is trying hard to scrub its image when there is an abundance of 1 star reviews, all of which list the same complaints, and then a few 5 star reviews, all of which have next to no cons. You're doing a disservice to current and potential employees by not being honest about your failings and misgivings, and you're depriving yourself of an opportunity to improve the working environment (although who's surprised, really). Minibar, you do not own your employees. They do not live to serve you. You do not have a "family environment" or whatever corporate-speak you use to distinguish yourself in the job market. Flexible hours. Not a difficult job So poorly managed. Management never checks in, unless there is something negative to say. Nothing is properly communicated to the staff, but your are expected to know what is going on. I was hospitalized for an emergency situation and required some days off. I typed out the days I needed. Completely disorganized and uninvolved. They have no clue what is going on on a day to day basis. If you ask specific questions you'll either get an "I don't know " or two different answers. Competitive pay, amazing co-workers, fun work environment, and the co-CEOs truly care about the well-being of each of their employees. From day one they make sure you feel welcome and that you're happy in your position. If you are someone who feels undervalued in your current role Minibar is the place to be. They are always setting the bar high and working with you to make sure you can exceed those goals. In such a small company they are always open for you to work on any projects that interest you. In my case I have helped with marketing and soon Minibar is paying for me to take SQL classes to help me with data analysis moving forward. They are always open to suggestions or constructive criticisms, even from new employees. Every voice is heard at Minibar, and when you do a good job they make sure your hard work is recognized and rewarded. It has been the best work experience of my life and if you are considering applying for a job I would 100% recommend to do so. In rare cases for my position, you have to help out on weeknights or weekends. But this is simply a part of working for Minibar. As an alcohol delivery service you should expect that you need to work when people are ordering alcohol, weeknights and weekends. Especially for our part-time customer service team you should expect to work some weeknights and weekends, because that is our business. Second, you sometimes need to work with angry store owners, but again this is just part of the job. Working in e-commerce will have its ups and downs with store partners. I tried to look beyond the negative reviews and give this company a chance but it was my mistake to do so. I should have considered the negative reviews more heavily before associating myself with this company. You get NY minimum wage: -Which can be nice if you live somewhere else but we’re still talking min wage… The job is simple and can be learned within three days: -Your training will consists of a bunch of info thrown at you that doesn’t really matter. -Expect to be re-trained by your fellow employees since they actually know what they’re doing. Your coworkers are nice: -I say this because the team really is the best. The problem is we’re all so overworked and tired of the issues in the company that any positivity in the team has vanished. Misinformation: -This company will lie to you. They purposely keep important information from you. Unmanageable availability requirements: -You are required to submit 52 hours of availability which means a sure bet of giving away your weekends and evenings. This means you’ll likely be working the last shift and then waking up to work the first morning shift. Split shifts are common. Trust me, it gets increasingly maddening. -You are required to submit evening and weekend time. Expect to do this despite what they may say in your interview. No flexibility in picking up/denying shifts: -The shifts you are assigned, you must take. You’re sick? You still work. You have another pressing engagement? You still work. It's incredibly difficult to get your shift covered. -Expect to still be assigned shifts that you blocked out as unavailable, despite management’s promises to the negative. It’s getting tired, Minibar. Unprofessional bosses: -Shift leads and pod leaders do not seem to have the knowledge or experience to manage the team. -Will forget about meetings and leave you waiting in your free time. -Not available to help, despite it showing that they are there on the schedule. Demanding and abusive customers: -This is expected in customer service. People reach out mainly because they’re mad. Except it won’t just be them. Expect to be yelled at and insulted by the very stores you are partnered with, to no fault of your own, and with no support from your own management. Constant negative feedback from bosses: -Calls are the most important metric. Even if you’ve devoted your time to help a customer make a $1k+ order and made sure it went well. You haven’t answered a call in an hour, ergo, you’re in trouble. -You can get in trouble or a ‘stage zero’ for not answering pings in a timely fashion. This does not apply to shift leads on duty that are there to help you. Mind numbing work: -You will find that in the middle of your 4-9 hour shifts, your brain has actually shut down and you are on autopilot. You are smarter and more worthy than this. Please find a different job that at least gives you come happy moments and doesn’t melt your brain. Main Cons of Minibar: I have worked at Minibar Delivery through many different changes and additions to the team. During that time, I found an increasingly amount of worrisome traits. First of all, I admire every single person in this company for sticking around while ridiculous demands were made and our suggestions for improvement were ignored. Don’t expect your concerns or requests to be met. Now here’s the most worrying part about Minibar: They do not care about you. An employee can enter a job and know that they need to conform to the company and do their best to fit in. Over time, you’ll bond with your fellow employees and can rely on them if you need to. Except you can work in this company for a year or more and guess what? You have nothing to show for it. There are very few shift leads and moving up is rare and difficult unless you’re already friends with management. Even then, moving up will mean one promotion that pays a measly amount and gives you more than twice the work. It means being told you have authority to make decisions but no actual voice to change things or help the company improve. This toxic environment creates employees who do not share their concerns about the company and almost always do the bare minimum of work because they are miserable. I am not speaking just for myself. I know for fact that while working and chatting with my colleagues, that they are as miserable as I am on shift. People will not do their best in the workplace if that workplace is toxic. This is common sense, Minibar. To my fellow employees and managers trapped in this job, please rip the bandage off this festering wound that is working for Minibar Delivery. You know this. You're a growing company and that's tough. This means that you have so much room for improvement and the opportunity to stop blaming your employees for things they cannot control. You can do better. Don't write bogus reviews in an attempt to make yourself look better. Actually do better. Have an EXPERIENCED HR person to get honest opinions about the company instead of half-heartedly calling it out in the meeting. This will avoid hurt feelings and the fear that you'll fire them. I put experience in caps because I truly don't want you to throw this job at a shift lead that's already doing too much. Lastly, "Each of us thinks & acts like an entrepreneur by coming up with new ideas, implementing them, testing them, and making improvements. We've created an open, fun environment with a work hard, play hard mentality." Make this statement a reality and teach your employees. This is an entry level job for most so you have the wonderful opportunity of teaching them about how a company works and how to improve. Scolding them like they're children does nothing. Encouraging them and making them excited about the company can do wonders. It also seemed like management wasn't in sync either; the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing.
