Many of the students are paying their own way through school, so they appreciate when you do a good job Prioritization of high-quality instruction. My average instructor rating was 4.8/5. I also gave more Cs, Ds, & Fs than any other instructor in my department, so this was not a case of "wink, wink -- give me good ratings and I'll give you As." When I applied for a full-time position, I was not hired because during my interview "I did not ask enough questions about the culture of the university." This was bizarre feedback. To this day, I'm not sure I believe it, and I remain somewhat baffled that I was not hired full time. It's a teaching-centric university, and several students asked what future classes I was teaching because I was their favorite instructor they've ever had. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL 1.0 3.0 3.0 3.0 3.0 3.0 1.0 129018 Open In the department for which I was employed, the chair was FAR more concerned with placating management than ensuring the students were receiving high-quality instruction.
