Poor management, no one knows what other people are doing. Poor company culture. Company's business structure is very unstable. There are opportunities for software & hardware engineers, marketing people, graphic designers, etc. My manager is capable and she has taught me a lot. The good thing about work at such environment is that you can learn a wide variety of technologies. The peers cooperation is good as we work as a small and united team together. I keep friendship with some colleagues even after I left the company. CEO is an industry veteran and you can learn a lot from him. The company atmosphere is hard working. You are encouraged to take responsibility and put your talents into real works. PTO are flexible as long as you have a good reason for it. Immigration policy friendly. The compensation and benefits are average. Work life balance is a little off. Co-workers were the best thing abut this place. Real, honest, and down-to-earth. Management is not the best. Actually very poor. Super-micro-management. They berate you once you have been fired and gone. They put all the blame on you. Never looking at themselves as the problem. But there was one time when they were delayed. CEO and his little minion claimed it was because of a bank error. But company is running out of money is the real reason You know what an abusive boyfriend is like? Where he constantly puts you down and tells you no one else would want you - so he kills your self esteem. That is this CEO, Joe. He constantly yells at and berates anyone who disagrees with him. If you are a person who thinks you are yelled at and pushed aside. You will learn nothing here. The CEO is a control freak who can't keep a straight thought for more than 24 hours. You know nothing about technology and consumers. Your constant changing of strategy, company names, logo colors, boxes that don’t make it to store shelves, hiring and firing of people is proof. I have been working here for 8 months and this is a pretty rewarding though challenging place. You will find lots of room to grow if you are the right talent. People here are nice, friendly, supporting and communicating. We do work as a team here. People go out for lunch together, karaoke, celebrating the birthdays with yummy cakes and company lunch events at restaurants for almost all big holidays. CEO as a business veteran can definitely show you the know-how in the growth of startups, IoT industry and the business skill if you are willing to listen and learn. Although opinioned as many other successful businessmen, our CEO DOES listen to your suggestion if you’re prepared before presenting the homework or assignment to him. You have to know what you’re talking about, as he is a very smart guy and polymath. I do feel respected from him in my expertise area. The pay is rewarding and will be increased by the management even without asking if you prove your value, just like at anywhere else. Like several startups, thanks for our office manager, we have mini-kitchen with endless pastries from Costco including Madeleine, croissants, Palmiers, cake rolls, and etc., and endless green tea packs, coffee and hot chocolate. Occasionally our colleagues do bring homemade muffin, bread, brownie, and etc. here, or sometimes snacks from business travel or vacation. (Yes, I am a girl and I do have to try very hard to avoid that area after realizing gaining few pounds in few months.) The working hours are pretty flexible but of course, as a responsible person, you still need to finish the work. Yes, this is a startup company, so everyone needs to work hard and contribute. This may not be a good place for a 9-5 workers. But I'd continue job searching even after you accepted the offer. MivaTek was one of the worst places I've worked at. The environment is toxic, the CEO uses profanity and yells at people on a daily basis, I heard of him making one of the girls cry in a meeting of 10 people. Keep in mind it's a small company, and everyone works with the CEO directly and the CEO makes all decisions no matter what department you're in. They low-ball employees' salaries by promising a bright start-up future with equity. But a few days into the company you'd understand that they're selling a commodity product for higher than market rate pricing. Along with bad management and the beaten up team, I don't see the future being bright for them. Their "marketing strategy" was hiring a few experienced marketers, let them compete, and firing those who they don't think are "experienced enough" in comparison. Keep in mind sometimes they hire people who leave other jobs to join them on the false pretense. Their "retention strategy" is to hire people who need Visa sponsorship, and sponsor them. Those guys are unhappy, but stuck there. Their "pricing/brand/product strategy" is whatever the CEO feels like at the time. The best example of this is the CEO deciding to name the company MivaTek without further thought. They're now being sued by Miva, the E-commerce software company, and they now have to change their name. So yeah, if you have no job and you need something to pay the bills, consider MivaTek over nothing. CEO is insane and super-micro managing every Department/Team. Even he doesn't know how Marketing, PR, Web Site Structure he tends to intervene with his incorrect knowledge of the subject matter. 100% of the time he is the bottleneck of many corporate initiatives. He does not trust his internal team, instead he would hire outside consultants to tell him the same info the internal team have been trying to emphasize.
