In theory it’s a great brand, until you realize what goes on behind closed doors. There is a lot of outdated thinking and there is little to no upward mobility for minorities. On my first one-on-one meeting with the CEO, she felt it was appropriate to ask me my race, age and living conditions during a call that was supposed to be about my career interests/trajectory within the organization. When I brought it up with upper management it was never addressed with the CEO. That alone was the nail in the coffin for me. Never in my life have I felt so undervalued or unappreciated until now. Nor have I ever felt like my race was a contributing factor to lack the lack of growth until now. I have never been so happy to leave a company as much as I have with Moleskine. HQ in Milan does allow much regional autonomy and lacks understanding of the North American and Latin America markets. They also lack foresight and have an antiquated way of doing business . Investing too much in more brick and mortar. The company is not aligned with what is happening in stores. In my time there we had 3 CEO's and 3 different District managers all with different agendas. I really had a sense of autonomy at the store whenever my manager or corporate wasn’t there. And the 50% off was super great cause I love their books.
