private:motivpowersystems https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=814313 Mar 30th, 2018 12:00AM Open Open Motiv Power Systems Director of Business Development Foster City, CA Bit by bit, we get to change the world. I have now been at Motiv for 5 years and in that time we've maintained constant growth. When we started working to build electrification technology for medium and heavy duty vehicles, people said it's not possible. Now that we've proved it is possible, we're working at scaling our production to make it more affordable to transition. (There are still adoption costs over diesel, but there's a lower total cost of ownership to have our technology.) A few times people have reached out to me trying to recruit me away from Motiv and a few things keep me invested in our work: -Our purpose. We're trying to free fleets from fossil fuels. We all know the goal, and we know why it's relevant to local air quality and reducing our climate impact. -Our team- we have constructive debates. When other people talk about internal company politics it tends to be about personalities being put against each other rather than ideas. We work really hard to debate ideas, and once we have a solution, to move on in alignment. The ability to disagree and debate while not being judged, and not having ego be part of it makes for a healthy team dynamic that is hard to find. -My role: I feel impactful every day. Even if we occasionally miss a goal or re-prioritize , we are making meaningful progress in advancing an industry that impacts everyone. I see what the team does, and how I fit within that team, and it makes me feel like I have a purpose within this space. We define our core values and legitimately work to hire, promote, and embrace them in all work we do: Deep Passion Curiosity Collaboration Customer Focus and Own It. We take pride in the intersection of how we learn, apply our craft, find ways to work together, on behalf of people with real needs, and while taking ownership for our actions. Growing pains are definitely a part of start up life. As we grow, we need more great people to fill critical roles that we didn't need when we were smaller, doing fewer projects, supporting fewer customers, and in a smaller industry. The team is growing, our work is growing, our customer base is growing, and our industry is going. If you want a moment to just enjoy stability of a process or group - it can feel exhausting. It's exciting at best, daunting at worse. In addition as we grow and focus shifts to supporting the higher growth areas first it sometimes feels like we're not giving adequate attention to other areas. These trade offs can be frustrating, especially for those unfamiliar with start up and the challenges of scale. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 5.0 5.0 4.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 4.0 814313 Open Continue to be blunt in asking tough questions, revisit assumptions, and when possible hire another person and delegate to create the mental space to focus on the next area so we keep our leading edge. 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 6.0 Mar 22nd, 2021 09:50PM Mar 22nd, 2021 09:50PM Motiv Power Systems Automobiles & Parts
private:motivpowersystems https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=814313 Mar 28th, 2018 12:00AM Open Open Motiv Power Systems Chief Executive Officer Foster City, CA Freeing Fleets from Fossil Fuel FYI, I am the Founder and CEO at Motiv, and I am writing an updated review since a lot has changed since 2016. Here's what hasn't changed: I love this company and I'm passionate about our purpose of Freeing Fleets from Fossil Fuel. I am fortunate to work with the Motiv team, which are super smart people who are also motivated by this mission and who are just as excited as I am to change the world for the better. I continue to learn and grow with the company, both personally and professionally. I'm writing an updated review because Motiv continues to grow and change. After 9 years, we are at a very exciting inflection point in the market. Strong demand driven by incentives, regulations and fleet mandates coincides with major technology improvements (battery prices coming down) and strong appetite/interest in the wider economy. Most mornings my kids ask me "why do you have to go to work today, daddy?" I feel like I need to have a really good response to that question (better than "for a paycheck"), and Motiv gives me a response to that question that I can feel proud about. "Yes, I have to go to work - I'm helping to make trucks and buses cleaner and healthier for you and for the planet". And by the way, we can actually see this, month over month, as more Motiv-powered trucks and buses hit the roads, reducing pollution and fossil fuel dependence across California and nationally (internationally in the future). We are growing super fast. This makes Motiv a fun, exciting, and high energy place. Everyone's working hard to hire, and that means everyone is also busy with filling lots of roles as we do try to hire. Motiv is not for everyone. Prospective employees should be aligned with our Purpose and our values of Deep Passion, Curiosity, Customer Focus, Collaboration and "Own It". If any of these don't describe you, then you may find Motiv a tough place to really unlock your full potential. Also, Motiv isn't a place you can sit back and coast. There's too much growth and too much going on for that. Fire hose? yes. Fast learning and growth? yes. Coast? no. Our pay is fair and within market norms. Our benefits have improved a lot in 2018 and will continue to improve. We are competitive in these regards; however, we find what really draws people to Motiv is excitement about (1) Freeing Fleets from Fossil Fuel, (2) being an early, core contributor to meaningful and cutting-edge market-leading technology and (3) the growth potential that exists. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 4.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 5.0 814313 Open I am proud of my leadership team's focus on enabling their teams to do their best work. I strive to enable my leadership team to do their best work and to facilitate continued vision alignment across Motiv. And also on the topic of this prompt, I will say that I always try to be open and listen to opinions and perspectives that differ from my own. 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 9.0 Mar 22nd, 2021 09:50PM Mar 22nd, 2021 09:50PM Motiv Power Systems Automobiles & Parts
private:motivpowersystems https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=814313 Jul 24th, 2016 12:00AM Open Open Motiv Power Systems United States USA On the right track but with work to do Mission based and if we achieve commercial success it will also benefit the communities using our product and the planet. Lots of opportunities to own projects and contribute. We fail at diversity. The standard issues of most Silicon Valley tech companies applies to us too. 3 of 4 advisors are named John, the 4th also male. A bit of a bro culture. Project timelines don't have enough buffer built in so any minor issue can cause the need for crunch time. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 0.0 NO_OPINION 2.0 3.0 3.0 3.0 3.0 3.0 4.0 814313 Open Be conscious of the culture and make sure there's more feedback mechanisms or the little problems will pile up. No one likes to spend time fixing avoidable problems and they will both reduce enthusiasm as well as make it harder to scale. 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 0.0 Mar 22nd, 2021 09:50PM Mar 22nd, 2021 09:50PM Motiv Power Systems Automobiles & Parts

The company is driven by the vision and the great impact clean electric vehicles will have on the environment. You get to work with really smart passionate people who want to see the company succeed.
