Tight-knit community of employees, awesome FAMs (scouting trips for your region), selling a solid product, small company feeling, great support system

Senior management have zero respect for employees
|

Occasional travel, maybe once a year. Often the other coordinators and sales people are really nice. I made lifelong friends there.
|
The CEO has no social skills and doesn't know how to talk to staff at all. She also seems not to care at all about any of the staff, and that goes for upper management too. The idea of staff having a life that matters outside of the office doesn't seem to cross their minds. There was a lot of favoritism, disregard for personal situations, lack of motivation or morale, lack of a decent company culture and plenty of other things that made it a pretty unfriendly and toxic place. Such a shame because so many lovely people worked there who were great at their jobs. They were all undervalued.

Learn to respect your amazing staff and show them they are appreciated. Your reputation is going down the toilet as a result of disrespecting your hardworking employees. Managers should know how to manage people and how to speak to them properly.

Extremely poor leadership. No effort to improve company culture. Poor incentives and general pay. This company has no respect for employees. Be on the board and you'll do alright.

Worst possible place to work at a place that, theoretically, should be the best

Great clients, great product, the company is historically important in the adventure travel industry. And its fun to talk to and be around people who love to travel (though you won't actually get to do much traveling).
|
I have never worked anywhere that had so many miserable employees. Other than the CEO, everyone hated being there. The morale was incredibly low. It should have been a great experience, but it was soul-crushingly toxic. There is one supervisor (still there) that is positively vile to peers and subordinates, alike. How this person wasn't fired years ago, no one understands.

MT Sobek has a long history in adventure travel. Their guides are fantastic, and it's fun getting to work with people who love travel as much as you do. There is lots of training on different destinations, and there are some fun employee events throughout the year.

Not really a con, but since it's a small team, you should be prepared to pitch in and help out other teams when needed.
