The industry is super unique and so are the positions here. Company has great office and atmosphere. Lots of music nerds. private:musicnotes https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=11432 Jun 18th, 2018 12:00AM Open Open Musicnotes United States USA A good place to start. Stay only if you're willing to settle. Casual environment. People are generally friendly and social. Flexible hours—great for those with families or who want to work outside 9–5. Upper management emphasizes community, some genuinely try to get to know employees. Generous to charities, including those started by their employees. Above average workspaces. Solid benefits package. Upper management seems 100% profit/growth oriented. I doubted their commitment to music as an art... it felt to me that their technology and product in the music industry was a means to an end, and they were unconcerned with how they could positively shape music beyond its business application. Work place sometimes was a bit too lax. My manager did not always hold some coworkers accountable for poor work habits such as backlogs, time mismanagement, or other disruptive behavior. The flexible schedule was stretched too far: many folks would come in quite early (before 7am) and be gone when higher priority work needed to be done in the mid-to-late afternoon, leaving coworkers high and dry. Collaboration between certain departments does not exist. Employees with actual music experience are rarely consulted in product development. Production and customer service teams are left out while technology is focused on. Little-to-no upward mobility. Most people here will never be promoted, unless their superior retires (and many of these people are MN lifers). Some poor uses of company funds, such as buying a shuffleboard table for the break room and a grand piano which is rarely used. 1.0 POSITIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL -1.0 DISAPPROVE 0.0 3.0 4.0 3.0 3.0 4.0 2.0 11432 Open Find ways to not only recruit, but retain young talent. Many of your brightest and most ambitious employees get restless and have found better work because there is not much opportunity to advance. Your technology is severely underutilized when it has the potential to positively impact music at every level: from educational all the way to Grammy winners. Focus not on growth and lining shareholders' pockets, but on how Musicnotes can be of value to all musicians—particularly schools and students—in order to do more good. Awareness of the company in professional music circles is a lot lower than you think. 0.0 [{"countHelpful": 0, "languageId": "eng", "userJobTitle": "Human Resources Director", "__typename": "EmployerResponse", "originalLanguageId": null, "id": 1849669, "responseDateTime": "2018-10-17T10:40:30.58", "translationMethod": null, "response": "Thank you for the feedback. private:musicnotes https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=11432 Sep 29th, 2017 12:00AM Open Open Musicnotes United States USA No vertical growth opportunities The company is very open and willing to change (although it takes persistence, which I address in the Cons). Had I been more experienced in my position this would have been a great place to influence the culture and make a stronger impact. That said: - Lots of room to be creative/try new things. - Opportunities to touch every aspect of the product suite across platforms. - Ability to grow into a team player across disciplines and departments. - Very accepting coworkers. Everyone is a collaborator. - Beautiful office with amazing amenities. Open and bright. - Who doesn't love in-office concerts/performances by growing artists? - Flexible work schedule. - Management is INSANELY approachable and will hear you out on many issues. My biggest issues were with my direct supervisor and the product direction/strategy as a whole. - Nebulous project direction which caused confusion. - Essentially 0 mentoring except when you do something wrong (aka, no positive reinforcement). - Product strategy was not cross-disciplinary (i.e., collaboration with other departments). -1.0 NEGATIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 2.0 5.0 4.0 2.0 3.0 3.0 11432 Open The product is more than code. If you are in the IT profession, you will want to steer clear. The management team has no interest in best practices, nor do they have a clear vision of how to update their 13 year old codebase (Classic ASP). Talented people are either fired or leave.
