You are reading this review because you are considering applying for or accepting a position with NDU. I was in that same spot a few months ago and decided to ignore the reviews and accept the job offer anyway. Unfortunately, I should have taken the reviews into considering and ran as far away as I possibly could.
|
This place is horrible, to say the least (unless you are here on military orders, a professor, or intern). The job you applied for will NOT be the job you do on a daily bases. To avoid going into details and revealing who I am and which college I work for, I can say this was the case for myself and at least 3 other people.
This place lacks a sense of urgency, details, training, mentorship, and LEADERSHIP. Leadership is horrible, and those confidential conversations you have with your supervisor will spread as the water did in New Orleans when the leaves broke.
Unless you are desperate for a job or you are being offered the salary of a lifetime (which I doubt because this place is cheap) then be my guest and join this cult, otherwise run and run fast in the opposite directions.

Management should learn to manage. There should be training in place for managers. I am not saying former military personnel is not capable of supervising civilians, and I do believe they should have training on managing a civilian employee.

People are very friendly and great to work with. The President (Executive level - 3 Star) promotes a positive working atmosphere.

The upward mobility is somewhat stagnated unless you are "in" with the higher ups. They don't seem to believe in internal promotions (unless you are academia).

Take your GS staff seriously and vet them for higher positions within the organization. HQ DIA has an awesome upward advancement program. Maybe they should look into how they run theirs.
