Negative environment and not a great experience

Great mission and great intentions to carry out that mission. Flexible with WFH and hours. Extra time off during holidays/summer is nice perk.
|
Overall, very negative environment:
- Unrealistic budgeting from the start so you're always behind/failing and having to answer to National about why
- Culture is toxic and hostile at times
- Micromanaged by National office so local offices can't make any decisions
- Top down leadership with very minimal autonomy even for a director-level position
- Some unqualified people in leadership positions

Very few, assuming you are familiar with working in a smaller non-profit...resources can be tight, raising money to fund services is a continuous process, and staff & volunteers are expected to wear multiple hats. However, most people called to this kind of work find that the benefits more than offset the challenges.

Excellent working environment, culture and interesting people. Employees have the ability to shift skill sets quickly. The National Kidney Foundation fosters a great work life balance. Probably the biggest (and most obvious) benefit comes from the potential to spend every day working on issues you’re passionate about, while endeavoring to make a difference in the life of Americans affected by Kidney disease.

Comparatively (with for profit companies) slower appetite towards technological change. Though this is prevalent throughout our sector, the National Kidney Foundation has made tremendous strides in the last few years.

A wasteland full of worthless employees

The work life balance is phenomenal because no one works.
|
Terrible upper level management. Uneducated and under experienced people in leadership roles. Catty offices that focus on intra office dramas rather than the mission of the organization. NKF has no desire to provide direct services or support to vulnerable populations. NKF is only focused on fundraising events. NKF staff are not good stewards of their dollars and if I donated to this organization I would be thoroughly disappointed in the manner in which they spend money. Diversity, in every sense of the word, is nonexistent. This place is a wasteland.
