The best non reasons to not work for this company: 1. Hiring managers are given a strict rule of closing job applications from talented candidates who may qualify for the position in less than 10 minutes 2. Applicants are given a test assessments to complete and then are told they are not qualified. 3. Lack of disrespect and rudeness 4. The CEO it's definitely not a good person. 5. A gossip and toxic working environment with lack of overtime pay 6. Great culture in the office and everyone likes coming to work every day. In the past NPA had employees who were more concerned about office gossip then getting their work done. Great to be a part of a team that is working together and not against one another. Dr. Fabricant allows your voice to be heard and is very supportive of staff. So much opportunity to evolve as an employee. CEO and SVP are always willing to allow staff to take on projects or tasks that they weren't necessarily hired to do. They look at an employee’s future and not keeping them contained within the parameters of their position they were hired for. Would recommend anyone who wants an opportunity to learn from highly respected and connected leadership to work here. Many opportunities at NPA. CEO had to change a rotten culture that existed here for years before his arrival. Employees now know how to row in the same direction. CEO moved the association from a townhouse far removed from Capitol Hill to an ideal location within a short walking distance from Congress. NPA would not exist today had it not hired its current CEO. I give credit to the Board Exec Committee for recognizing that fact and letting the CEO do his thing. CEO demands more from himself than any other staff member there. He is the best salesman and face of the organization because he actually helps his member companies. CEO knows the commodity inside and out, so it is a great place to learn. The CEO reads Harvard Business Reviews, understands many management styles, and implements HBR suggestions ... I find that refreshing. The CEO puts those management styles into practice to motivate under-performers. Unfortunately, HBR doesn't suggest giving candy, treats, and ice cream to employees on Fridays. A gossip-free workplace. If someone likes to engage in gossip, this isn't the place for you. I would recommend another association. The CEO does not tolerate gossip in the workplace. Refreshing place to work and learn. The most successful employees here have 3 qualities: 1) a willingness to work hard, 2) a desire to learn and understand the commodity, and 3) finishing power to complete assignments. The unique commodity of food (dietary supplements) advocated for by the NPA needs help, and the CEO is the only person who understands how to do just that. It is a New York Wall Street atmosphere, very high speed, and not for everyone, but the rewards are high if you are driven. I never saw anyone get stiffed over salary. I have witnessed employees receive raises and reward the CEO by not working. The location is great, a few blocks from Union Station. Folks inside who know how to row the boat in one direction get along with and care about each other. NPA employs individuals with diverse backgrounds. It employs people who have been there a long time as well as those just learning the commodity for the first time. Great place to start a career. None. Gossip from former employees who left was the biggest drawback at NPA, but they are long gone. NPA had a cancerous culture of anger and bitterness because people did not want to work. Thankfully, the tumor was removed. I have witnessed the gamut of employees. Employees who left typically kept their bad work habits in check for a few weeks to months before the train fell off the tracks. I also give credit and respect to employees who realized that this may not be the place for them and punch out because it is fast paced. These few are wonderful colleagues and really help the industry. The CEO has no idea how to effectively manage a team and grow the association in a constructive and productive direction. Leadership is authoritarian, uses intimidation tactics and encourages negative gossip about fellow staff members. There is zero tolerance for anything not done 'my way' and feedback is always overly critical (never constructive) and has even hit the level of shouting and name calling, the kind of behavior I expect from a 3 year old. Staff turnover is huge due to the leadership of the association and it is a truly toxic and miserable environment. I heard completely inappropriate jokes making fun of race, gender and sexuality within the workplace and the hiring strategy is limited to only a narrow demographic. Avoid working here at all costs, it will make you miserable. private:naturalproductsassociation https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=788530 Aug 22nd, 2014 12:00AM Open Open Natural Products Association United States USA Caution: Poor organizational management coupled with unstructured and dysfunctional policies and executive leadership The perception of the organization leans on words like "oldest/largest", "venerable", and such, and the use of high-powered public relations firms to get key staff articles/placement in Teen Vogue, Time Magazine, etc. makes it appear to be a top-line establishment - but isn't supported in actual execution. Core polices and procedures and management are dysfunctional from the top down (board to executive management). The illusion of democracy and representation is offered to members, but the association is in reality a small club where the true "power" is in the hands of a very small group of individuals (the Executive Committee - and in some cases individuals on it). Staff credentials may seem on the surface to be exemplary - but business acumen, employee management, and ethics are sorely lacking (failure to honor contracts, for example). Good industry to support. Enjoyed getting to know members who were dedicated to the industry. Leadership too much in love with itself to do any good for members. Lots of office gossip and distrust. Could go days without seeing coworkers and it was a tiny office.
