The culture is friendly but productive. Everyone I worked with had a great work ethic but without a stressful environment. My job ended as as a result of website automation and decreased demand for my role as administrative assistant to the Managing Director of a trade association. I worked there almost 15 years. A typical workday included scheduling, answering phone, manually collating a newsletter, posting news articles to the website, maintaining spreadsheets, and updating member information. In fact it's so laid back that you really don't even have to be that good at your job or do it all that well. All you really need to do is "fit in" into some social circle, make a couple friends in upper management, and the next thing you know is that your just another tenured crony mediocrely chugging along. That said, don't expect your pay to go up, because in this culture of mediocrity, any type of personal or professional growth is slow. All expenses are managed by the ownership in such a stringent and tight fashion that not only are significant raises off the table, but opportunities for growth and investment in the business and other needed areas are often ignored or missed out on. Which is why the company has significantly downsized it's staff and watched some of their best, brightest and highest potential employees walk out the door over the past few years. There are a few really good and smart hard-working people still left there, just not nearly enough to make a difference or change the direction in which the company is heading. It's just a matter of time until the company's ownership finally slashes the expenses and top-tiered talent to the point where they will be able show an imaginary increase on their overall profit margin.
