Where are the females or underrepresented groups?
|
|
One team member was kind and helpful; probably a great place to thrive if you’re a white male - the about us page illustrates this visual accurately.
|
The lack of diversity fosters a toxic environment for underrepresented individuals. Aggressive language, working weekends and passive aggressive behavior are encouraged. Men are mentored. Women are often talked over and ideas dismissed.

It would benefit the organization to ensure as leaders you’re reaching behind pulling someone up with you. Ask others for their POV; ask why there isn’t more diversity and inclusion and engagement with talent? it isn’t that there’s not someone qualified, perhaps it’s just not trying hard enough to engage.

Lacking identity & strategic direction
|
|
Remote work, work/life balance, "ok" benefits/pay (position dependent), responsive with remote equipment needs, employees/overall team
|
Big promises, little follow-through; strategies/direction is that they are constantly changing - nothing in place long enough to measure/validate success; lacking organizational identity and demonstration of beliefs/values; hang on the coat tails of all-star hires; inability to make decisions and stand by them; although very smart, CEO is all over the place and lacks emotional intelligence

Trying to fund product development with software consulting contracts makes for slow product development
As a small company trying to obtain investments for their product development, the consulting contracts come and go frequently resulting in employee turnover

Product development is going to continue to be slow, inefficient, and poor quality until software developers suited for the job are hired to explicitly work on the products. Subbing in infrastructure / devops engineers to work on web development for 1-2 months at a time between consulting contracts is ineffective.

Small Hiccups, but not too shabby at all
|
|
New Context Services is a company that genuinely values their employees. None of the typical Silicon Valley bull that you usually get: No ball pits, arcade machines, or open bar in the office. What they do have is solid benefits, solid equity vesting, competitive salary, and a culture that deeply encourages constant learning and bettering one's self.
There's no office politik here. No egos to fight.
Everyone is insanely intelligent. The leadership recognizes this and doesn't attempt to micromanage or force things the engineers don't want.
There's a daily standup, and you're actively encouraged to share if you're blocked on something. Chances are, a coworker is a master of the thing you're stuck on, and is happy to help.
Weekly retro meetings allow everyone to keep up to date on the happenings, and there's almost always a cool tech demo by someone before retro as well. I absolutely loved it here.
|
It's a consulting firm. Not a bad thing in and of itself, but consulting generally lends itself to a bit of instability. While you're always on a new project and always learning something new, all it takes is one bad quarter to force a workforce shrink. As much as you might want to stay here for 20 years, it's entirely possible shrinkage occurs 3 months in, and you're out. They do their best to keep people on; certainly far moreso than most other consulting firms. I'd never work for another consulting firm, but I'd go back to New Context in a heartbeat.

Great company to grow with
|
|
Excellent wealth of knowledge and engineering best practices. Lots of opportunities to work on challenging projects. Embraces a remote employee culture. Good PTO and benefits.
|
Communication has traditionally been a difficulty but is known by leadership and is actively being worked on. No current stock matching but could happen in the future as company gets bigger.

From a 3 year employee
|
|
Early in my career, I had heard the phrase "luck is when preparation meets opportunity."
When I joined New Context, it gave me a chance to prove how valuable I was, I got to work on numerous projects after practicing Ruby/Rails for 5 years in the startup world I was put straight on to assist other teams to help rebuild applications, maintain new applications, built a new application from the ground up, wrote open source software, and more.
I witnessed first hand this company multiply in team size and revenue since I've joined and I'm proud to be part of it. New Context is also one of those companies that made me realize how important trust is and taught me so many valuables things in life, I came here barely knowing and lets just put it this way...
New Context former and current, are basically my second family. People here don't care about your flaws, they just want to enable you to do your best and they're really open to being flexible and working around peoples lives. They're super comfortable to hang out with no matter who you are I'm sure you'll find someone fascinating here to bounce ideas off of.
I can comfortably say that everyone who works at New Context is an A+ player, can you talk to anyone here deeply about various subjects, from machine learning, to how the brain works, to how computers work, to how the internet works, what happens when you type google.com in your web browser? How do you do TDD in python, scala, java, you name it, we discuss it.
New Context has diversity. You'll meet people from everywhere here. People who have been places. People who travel while they work just because they can and did I mention, they also pay for travel and conferences?
This company has brought me so many great experiences in life, and I'm going places.
|
* Competitive hiring process
* Lots of communication
* Weekly wide company retros/demos to discuss company matters, or anything really.
* Lots of meetings
* Possible travel requirements
* Taxable Incomes
* Possibility of emergency on calls
* Lots of testing in code required
* Lots of collaboration expected
* Global team
