A few employees were nice... nothing else.
|
Haven’t even been working there a month.
Not good management... rude coworkers... only a few were actually sweet and kind... A LOT OF FAVORITISM... couple of shift leaders had rumors spread about me/falsely accusing me of things I didn’t do.
The manager because of this ended up cutting my hours without my knowledge which is wrong on a lot of levels... whenever I asked for help during training I was given the cold shoulder/they were very rude and disrespectful towards me.
Please do not apply here. You deserve to be respected and this place does not do that. Will never work/shop here again.

Well, here's where we have a bit more to say. The root of the problem is the owner Kevin. He insists that his company is fine and takes any input or advice of anything as an attack on him and the way he runs things. There are many avid issues with scheduling that he blatantly ignores, or covers up with lies of "copy-pasting" schedules, which is a fallacy considering no one has the same hours or days week to week. His deli is in shambles, with art work from 5 years ago hanging and coagulating with grime and dust from every day. Unable to be washed, one can easily see the black streaks of gunk running down the chalk drawing at the top. The menu board in the deli is almost invisible, and most customers miss it entirely. The panini grill CANNOT melt your cheeks or roar your meat while on the sand which. They use a microwave oven that barely works to melt the cheese and then toss it on the grill for a little bit to just toast the bread. The salad bar comes in a bag, as well as the soup and most of the hot food. Once you go back to the kitchen it only gets worse. The fridge is it is a nightmare of semi labelled products and forgotten projects from weeks ago. Every single walk in unit is packed too full, with carts of item often being left in there for weeks. Items are quite often not flipped properly and many goods go bad, or are put out later due to the lack of awareness and care by some employees. I could continue on for much longer with issues I've whiteness', but then no one would read it. Just know this. It looks like and is an amazing company to work for at the start. Your fellow minimum wage employees will treat you great till the day you leave. But Kevin, with his laissez faire leadership, and authoritarian attitude is the real problem. And remember one rule if your brace enough to work here. Never speak your mind openly to Kevin, only ever do it in anonymous form rather you be reprimanded for having suggestions or criticism to better a company.

I don't understand the bad reviews.

I started working at New Earth Market 3 1/2 years ago and reading these bad reviews are really surprising to me. A huge pro is the fact they do not judge you on your outward appearance, im a fine example for i was hired with a lot of visable tattoos and piercings on the spot mind you, and I saw the opportunity to move up and I did, from bagging groceries, stocking produce, cutting meat, and finally becoming a department manger.
Another pro is if you actually work hard it is noticed, this place is not your normal work environment, it is what ypu make of it. You want a challenge, its there. But if want to do the bare minimum you have to take responsibility for it. Some people dont have the drive to push them selfs to a higher challenge, I did and they gave me that chance. I am everyday grateful for my opportunity that was given to me and not handed to me.

I don't have any bad Cons about the business. If anything, I get inspired by the back story of the business. Its unfortunate to see people who can't take responsibility for there actions.

The lower level employees are often very honest and good people. They are a lot of fun to work with and they usually become good friends outside of the workplace. The food is always really good and the employees are always willing to work with you to make your food how you want it. Each department has really good, knowledgeable people who can help you make informed decisions on what to buy.

My time spent working at New Earth Market started out great. I loved the job and the people I worked with. I didn’t think I could find a better place in this town to work, and I even started at a quarter above minimum wage. I didn’t see the warning signs though; I was one of the lucky employees to have gotten on the good side of our manager early on. I was told time and time again to watch out for the manager, even by other managers and department heads. I shut my ears and kept working. I didn’t want to believe something could go wrong. But the longer you stay at New Earth, the more you start to see why there are 15 reviews on this website that are mostly negative and only two reviews, which are almost definitely written by managers as the company’s response to save face, with only positive things to say. While working there I saw a lot of favoritism, which is to be expected to some extent at any job, but with the small amount of work that some people are able to get by with, it’s a wonder the store ran at all. The people who do hard work and come in for early shifts every day, making the store run are regarded as expendable. There are employees who have worked there for almost as long as the store has been open and have not received a raise, but have done enough work to be deserving of “Employee of the Month”.
The owner comes in almost daily and if he is not in his office, he is out stocking shelves almost as if expecting a photo op, or he is leering and watching the employees, waiting for them to make a mistake. If you are unlucky enough to have made a mistake in front of him, he will never address you about it. He will walk directly to your manager and tell them to reprimand you or he will send them an email telling them to reprimand you. Sometimes you hear about the “mistake”, which is often an issue of miscommunication or that something took too long because the departments are understaffed (which is often the fault of the manager who writes the schedule).
The manager that I was told to look out for earned the reputation. If she decided she didn’t like you, she would write you off the schedule almost completely. If you got another job, even if the other job was willing to work around your hours, she would write you off the schedule almost completely. If you were going to school, she would “accidentally” schedule you on days you had class. She will give you a wake-up call at 5 a.m. to tell you she needs you to cover a shift at 2 p.m. on your day off. Employees in her department are told to clock out and come back to work so they don’t get any overtime. They are forced to work on their lunch breaks because of the problem of the store being understaffed and employees often do not get the legally required ten minute break either.
If you decide to work here, you will regret it. There is a reason the store has a high employee turnover rate.

You are in a progressive field of business, but your company values are not progressive at all. please stop using established business practices. People want to work at the store because it is not like Wal-Mart; don't be like Wal-Mart. Find a way to resolve in-fighting between managers; employees are only as good as the people who manage them, ideally. Give credit, and compensation, where it is due. Your employees are treated as guilty until proven less guilty. Find the reason mistakes happen instead of blaming those who made the mistakes.

Back stabbing employees( a cashier ) who made up lies to have me not hired back after I quit because of unqualified Management and was told when I would start, and the day before my shift was to start received a call saying that they decided to hold off on hiring for a while, lies!!!
The owner is delusional and his wife is high maintenance and self centered.
