There are too many cons to list but it starts with the lack of transparency to their employees and a constant change in management. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NO_OPINION 0.0 1.0 5.0 1.0 2.0 4.0 2.0 580699 Open 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 2.0 Mar 25th, 2021 06:50PM Mar 25th, 2021 06:50PM New Era Portfolio

Worked with a good group of people who were fun. Company tried to put on events regularly. Company was failing financially at the time I left. "Us" vs. "them" culture between the front office and the production staff in the back. Pay not competitive. Micromanagement. Division within senior management. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 2.0 5.0 5.0 3.0 1.0 2.0 580699 Open 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 2.0 Mar 25th, 2021 06:50PM Mar 25th, 2021 06:50PM New Era Portfolio
private:neweraportfolio https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=580699 Mar 24th, 2016 12:00AM Open Open New Era Portfolio Quality Assurance Specialist Austin, TX Bad Executive Management Swanky environment. Pretty laid back. Somewhat decent pay. Ground floor opportunities, with advancement potential. Somewhat decent pay. Somewhat cool co-workers. Got to briefly meet Billy Corgan. OK, so I get this gig as a Quality Assurance Specialist writing Selenium for their software development team. I've been in software development since 2007, specifically in the business of printing and online publication. So I figured it was a good fit. I found myself beset by YET ANOTHER protectionist, technocratic culture in the development department. People blaming you for not knowing proprietary stuff that they don't want to teach you. Elitists leaving you out, socially, in a professional context. Then they fired their lead developer halfway through a major renovation of their website, because he 'wasn't a team player' (he didn't want to wake up early enough to attend morning meetings, but was a frequent all-nighter-puller). Well that's a nightmare from a QA perspective. The guys they replaced the lead with were greenhorns right out of college. So the first 2 weeks they are there I'm having to help them set up their dev instances. I'm re-opening bugs that got filed and fixed before they joined the project. Management allows for no slippage in the deadline. As QA, I had zero say in whether they launched or not. They rush a deploy. There were deployment issues (naturally). Finally, they blamed me, threw me under the bus, and straight-up FIRED me, over a DEPLOYMENT issue with their site that was fixed within 15 minutes by a developer. Also, their EMT is, for lack of a better word, 'Caligula'. 'Sexual tourism in Mexico and Indo-China'-type people. Beyond the development staff, most of the people who work there are pretentious hipsters. I can also say that this is yet another job that Austin scene-gangs have cost me, due to this company's employees connection to the Mob via drugs and prostitution. I eventually worked at a somewhat better web development company, where I learned much more. I wouldn't take this job now. Too over-qualified. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 2.0 2.0 1.0 2.0 2.0 1.0 580699 Open People in software tend to be antisocial by nature. Your job as a manager is to make connections between those people, to help them work together. If someone isn't being included or given what they need to do their job, it's your obligation to fix that. 0.0 [] No No 1.0 Mar 25th, 2021 06:50PM Mar 25th, 2021 06:50PM New Era Portfolio

private:neweraportfolio https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=580699 Jul 25th, 2014 12:00AM Open Open New Era Portfolio United States USA It starts out great and then the harsh reality sets in. You will find some people who are friendly and easy to make friends with. Occasionally there are company parties to enjoy and salaried employees can usually have some flexibility in their schedules. If you are an art lover, you will enjoy the products and art you get to see. There is lots of parking, free coffee from a Keurig and a few vending machines. Things have been going downhill for a while. The new CEO promised to help turn things around by listening to the employees and using data to make business decisions, not just deciding things based on personal opinions. That's not what ended up happening. People were fired, leaving fewer people who still needed to accomplish the same amount of work and more. Big decisions are made based on what people think or feel, not hard data-driven facts, and often by people with no real training on the issue they're discussing. None of the executives seem to know anything about technology - which is a really big problem when you're trying to run an eCommerce company that needs to be revitalized because it's losing money. Not to mention the art that is currently popular and sold in every store you shop in is not being sold by this company, and they don't seem to think that's a problem that needs to be addressed. Employees are often yelled at and scapegoated, or just simply overlooked and ignored - especially when they have an opinion different from that of the CEO. And the amount of cronyism here is staggering. People and outside consultants are hired because they are "friends" of the CEO - not the best strategy to create a diverse, creative, work environment. This company wears its employees down, I've seen it happen time and time again. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 2.0 1.0 3.0 2.0 2.0 3.0 2.0 580699 Open Truly LISTEN and stop the micromanaging! If you hire people you believe are knowledgable and can do the job, then let them do it. Don't ask them to do things that aren't in their skill set simply because you don't want to hire someone else. You wouldn't ask a professional chef to do your taxes, would you? And stop the negativity. Everyone is really TRYING to make things better, people like to succeed, but you treat employees like the enemy. Recognize that you don't know everything about everything. You are not an expert on every subject and that requires humility. And for your own sake, recognize that the art you are offering is not what is currently popular or trending. If it was, you'd be having more success yourself. 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 0.0 Mar 25th, 2021 06:50PM Mar 25th, 2021 06:50PM New Era Portfolio
private:neweraportfolio https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=580699 Jun 23rd, 2014 12:00AM Open Open New Era Portfolio United States USA New Era has been chasing its tail for too long There are some talented and cool employees. Ping pong table and a keg. The products are beautiful and there are some cool projects you get to work on. Lots of parking and the building isn't bad. The new CEO is not an eCommerce or technology guy, making it difficult to feel like you're part of an innovative company. He mostly turns to his friends (consultants) for advice and ignores the internal team minus a few people that are "yes" guys. The change in the culture is sad, it is not a place you wake up wanting to go to. Employees are running around frantic with no time to help each other out, because they are under pressure to please their manager by trying to complete the never ending to do list. This makes doing your job well very challenging. The business strategy is unclear. You are expected to answer emails 24/7 and the emails never stop. They are mostly negative in tone which contributes to the negative culture. There are not any scheduled reviews and there is no opportunities to increase your salary. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL -1.0 DISAPPROVE 0.0 2.0 3.0 2.0 2.0 3.0 2.0 580699 Open Decide to trust your team and learn from them. private:neweraportfolio https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=580699 Feb 10th, 2014 12:00AM Open Open New Era Portfolio United States USA Disrespectful cool images, art, print technology This company had 2 wonderful reviews for a while - from 2 people high-up in their hierarchy, who are the only ones that actually matter for them. Everyone else is disposable, and the management hides behind a "fun" facade while treating people with disrespect: this culture is well established. Before being let go, everyone is over-worked. The people who actually are "very important" keep their positions by obviously acting obsequiously towards the CEO. Some have no idea of what they are talking about, or just happen to look good. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL -1.0 DISAPPROVE 0.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 3.0 1.0 580699 Open Treat people respectfully. 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 2.0 Mar 25th, 2021 06:50PM Mar 25th, 2021 06:50PM New Era Portfolio
