The NJ Courts is a great place to work. I've been here fifteen years, and it meets all my expectations for support, exciting opportunities, and a wonderful environment. Everybody working here is a professional. There are no cons working here. HSA/TES beware of working. You don’t get benefits and are pretty much used for the work that you do. Worked during COVID and was sent out to be with COVID patients and worked on the COVID units in GPPH. TES/HSA were not given Hazard pay like full time and part time staff who did not have to go on the COVID units or be with recovering COVID patients at hospitals . Some of these TES/HSA workers were offered and given part time during the pandemic and it was taken away right when COVID started to die down. You are just used and can be easily replaced. You are also moved from unit to unit often. Watch your back when on new units. The work itself such as caring for patients is not difficult but if all unit staff are doing the same work and some [TES] are doing more then they should be compensated. You will learn an exceptional amount in a very short amount of time that will be helpful in preparing you to be an associate, particularly if you want litigation. And if you have a judge that you work well with, you will feel an immense sense of community and support while performing your job duties, since the work you do is for the judge's direct benefit. You'll also get great exposure to different firms in the area and learn who you would be a good fit for. The downsides are that the pay is far below the amount of work you perform as a clerk, and the bureaucracy of state work can really get to you if you don't like a super rigid work structure. The job can really burn you out and it's important to make your own work life balance. I'm grateful for my experience but would not want to repeat it, as I'm ready to move on. A schedule could be planned for the day/week, but could quickly change. What I have learned while at the division is how to assess the clients' needs efficiently and provide individualized services. I feel like I have a strong sense of cultural diversity as a result of the population I work with. I acquired strong critical thinking, assessment, and structured decision-making skills during my time with the agency. The workplace culture is diverse, fostered teamwork, individual creativity, and a strong support system. The hardest part of the job is the work/family balance. The most enjoyable part of the job is seeing a family reunified and families being able to move on independent of the division. We were severely understaffed, and in a place like a court house where we deal with the public constantly, this makes for an extremely stressful work environment. This probably depends on how many people management is willing to hire. In the case of the Hudson Vicinage we were very understaffed.
