Therapists are great. They promote within. Even when someone is not qualified for the job. COmpany is going but the staff is leaving due to poor management. company is all about the money. Not the clients.

Excellent place to work
I came to New Oakland after leaving a very hostile work environment. I was open and honest about this in my interview and specific about the support I was looking for from my management team. New Oakland was very receptive. Since starting with New Oakland I’ve been met with nothing but support and encouragement from all levels of management. I found my coworkers very supportive and the environment was collaborative. I was encouraged to challenge myself to become a more well rounded therapist and was met with unwavering support when navigating client issues. There is a steady source of clients coming into the agency, so no lack of referrals and can build a case load relatively quickly. In my experience, good quality work and hard work is rewarded. Plenty of room for advancement and role change should life happen and circumstances change or you’re looking for experience with new/different things. Several paid holidays, great work environment, nice offices, and several locations. Benefits are comparable but not the most extensive as they are a smaller family-owned company. There are raises/bonuses dependent on performance. Option to move to salaried with benefits once able to demonstrate solid performance. I was fully licensed already, but supervision is available if needed.
Supervision provided if needed, Free lunches regularly, great work environment, supportive management, family owned company
Benefits are not extensive, short lunch (30min) for salaried individuals.

Competitive, not strengths-based, hostile work environment
Working here (at the Farmington Hills location) was a mistake, other than the skills I learned how not to run a mental health facility, which in retrospect were valuable. Staff turn around is extremely high (within 6 months, we had at least 6 new employees at one location). Supervision is minimal, and I was told I would have to locate supervision outside of the agency (which you have to pay for, not the biggest issue if the pay was not so low), but come to find out four months later there is supervision available at the agency. Overall the management at FH location is coercive, threatening, and hostile. Job expectations were in flux as we were told different information on how to do our jobs day by day. The atmosphere created an environment where clinicians were constantly being monitored (management would often step into group rooms, then taken clinicians from the group as it was running to be reprimanded then given new direction). Clinicians were even questioned by management for taking bathrooms breaks or walking in the hallway, I kid you not. There was one instance where I watched a trainer berate a clinician in front of consumers. She was in my office crying for 30 minutes. She left soon after. This agency did not encouraged a strengths-based approach to treating consumers. For example, in multiple meetings some clinicians would laugh about a consumer's preferred pronoun or name usage or call consumers "crazy". Completely disheartening. The pay is low and the time off for first-year employees is 10 days/year. I witnessed multiple times behavioral technicians (some of them are great) adding to the stress to consumers, mainly children, where they acted hostile towards the children instead of helpful. For example, sometimes kiddos hid under the tables (reaction to trauma), and technicians would say repeatedly, "Get out from under the table" and ignore my advice to let them be until they felt safe. The children's room was a joke... very few toys for play therapy. The approach here, for the most part, was "What is wrong with you?" instead of, "What happened to you?" Also the approach to treatment was highly behavioral, which in some aspects is great, but it is not the end all, be all to treatment. To prep for 6 hours of group, we were given 10-15 minutes when we should have been given 1-2 hours. Morning meetings were focused on keeping clients as long as possible for insurance benefits. Forget about taking lunch breaks or having free time after work, as the daily expectations had me working 10-12 hours per day, no lunch break then I would take work home, sometimes working until 10:30 PM from home. Assessment for SI/HI was done punitively, where I observed clinicians asking clients multiple times, "Are you going to kill yourself?" for fear of liability versus an approach that is caring and properly assessed. I would not recommend that anyone work here. In fact, unless management gets an overhaul, this facility should be shut down. I honestly fear for consumers that seek treatment here.
You see a lot of different consumers across populations, which is good for work experience
Stressful, hostile management, poor salary and benefits, not strengths-based, punitive, stressful, high turn around rate

Wide variety of counseling experience in a collegial atmosphere
Liked it because it was close to where I live. Staff was very supportive. Collegial atmosphere. Formal training annually. Some control over schedule.
Close to home. Large consumer base. Caseload builds quickly.
Poor communication at times. Frequently dropped off internet making record keeping difficult.

as a contractual therapist, working with the clients was awesome. Upon entering the company, I was warned that the director picks out therapist to harass. Be aware of her. The supervisor who is unethical and will put fraudulent reviews in your chart. Find another contractual position.

This by far was the most stressful workplace I have been. There waa never any organization or communication between employees, it was as if everyone was out to get one another.
