Being a startup means that direction can change fast, and you have to cope with ambiguity sometimes. I like the constantly changing nature of the work that comes with a small company, and I like where we're headed. If you're part of the company then you are contributing directly to product. No bureaucracy or long winding process from your work to the end result. Sometimes there is whiplash during a single day due to all the different hats and occasional surprises. I can honestly say that I genuinely enjoy everyone who works here. We value autonomy, but we are cross functional and are always helping each other out. I work with many brilliant minds and I'm constantly learning from them. We are building a new and exciting technology and we aren't perfect. Leadership allows us to make decisions, test things out, and if we fail, we can remedy the situation quickly. We are all treated like owners and we all want to succeed. Unlike some other startups, we don't play ping pong for 5 hours and stay at the office for 16. There are awesome benefits, weekly lunches, beer on tap, company retreats and lots of daily laughter. Because this is the first tech startup I've worked, I had challenges when I first started with all of the changes. But now, I've embraced the changes. The people are great and down to earth - it's easy to come in and immediately make a difference and feel like what you do matters. As with any early stage startup, things change fast and you have to be adaptable. The work is always interesting and the team is enjoyable. It's like working with a bunch of old friends. I get to do different things each day and since we're all working towards the same goal, there is no ego in the way. Everybody just wants the honest best. This is a startup so there is always pressure to deliver. Leadership has invested a lot of time into creating a collaborative and transparent culture and continues to invest heavily in growing this. Nexosis is very much a startup.
