Was given the opportunity to advance and was promised a raise. Always get it in writing, I failed to do that. Supervisor was not personable and if you stepped on her toes or went over her head to talk to others with concerns, you were excluded and had duties take away. I was verbally reprimanded for it as well. No team work. Environment was toxic and unhealthy. Unable to say how you feel. There was favoritism. Need leadership who genuinely care for their employees. Needs transparency. Free tuition if approved. Women in the field tend to be paid less. Having a degree is over rated, people in leadership, degree is not helpful when it comes to the leadership. Not focusing on community and remote learning has many challenges for administration. Again, Indians aren’t getting a voice. The pay was lower than I would want but not lower than industry standards for graduate instructors at public institutions in the area (though lower than the nationwide average). There is no graduate union for collective action but there is a faculty union. I am not sure if there is a staff union. A typical day at work could include interviewing parents, conducting developmental screenings with children ages birth through 5, and writing assessments and making recommendations for services. I maintained regular contact with my supervisor, though she is in another office. Probably the most difficult part of the job is seeing the low reunification rates. The hours are fairly flexible as the professional staff members usually work around your schedule to accommodate your needs. Hours aren't too bad, but sometimes you're on call once or twice a week.
