Fun Place to Work where everyone who walks through the door immediately buys into what we are trying to achieve. This goes for both the team environment as well as the successful implementations of all projects to our clients. At Oceanwide (Insurity) we still have fun despite the transition. The good thing is that during the rough patches our voices were heard and management stepped up, listened and came up with a plan of action. They told us the truth and allow us to make our best judgement. Things are slowly but surely coming back to normal and we are finally seeing what future holds both for the company and its employees.

technically not good at all

This is the way I saw oceanwide/insurity work as a technical guy: when some interesting project comes up to work on generally top managers start working on it (because it is not boring and they assume they know what they are donig and dumb developers dont know!). After some time the code either becomes really messy or boring to work on . At this point they hire developers to continue the work. The bitter reality is that most of managers dont know how to do software properly. They have some ideas, they mess up with it then they hire you to put it in order but it is not possible because you have to follow the way they dictate to you. Users are very unhappy about performance and bugs of oceanwide systems. Major technical decisions are made behind close doors without any justification and they dont make any sense. The way requirements are communicated is really bad and vague.It is part of their culture and they are somehow proud of it! why? because poor developer goes and after a lot of effort implements something that managers can not even express properly! There is also a lot of time pressure on you to get the job done quickly.
Growing at this company is unfortnately about making a lot of noise and not about doing a great job.

You have broken up may things. Be less conservative and give your developers more freedom maybe the come up with something better.

- At least some areas (e.g. Account team) take your career seriously, provide you with plenty of feedback and growth opportunity
- Culture open to ideas and improvements
- Anglophone job in Montreal (if you don't speak French)
|
- Some managers are demanding to the point of being borderline harassing you.
- The company focuses on delivering good enough solutions. This makes sense as most clients are cost sensitive but it can be frustrating.
- Some managers don't demand much of their team. This leads other teams to work extra hard so things don't fall apart.

A time of change - who knows if it's for the better

There were lots of pros but I think they may be pretty much all gone.
|
Drastic change of management.
I left as the company was being restructured. Insurity - owning company - were changing the management structure and company structure of all their acquired companies.
As I left there was too much work for too few staff in London office.
I have since heard that moral is very low and London management have all left due to work life balance problems. Everything now managed through Canada.
It was a good company but who knows if it will survive this. Standards have fallen drastically in how they treat people.

Lots of free lunches and free food. You do meet some genuinely kind people. The CEO is implicated and cares about the success of his employees and his company.

Lots of discriminatory comments.
Some personalities should be completely eradicated from the company.
Often unprofessional at times.
Oceanwide tries to be a great company but fails at it unfortunately.
They are literally outsourcing but internally, meaning they hire a lot of recent immigrants that have a high level of education and pay them below market average.
I personally find that is an ethically poor practice.
