A lot of assistance from co-workers. No direction from superiors unless something goes wrong. Better than working for the Public Defender's Office for the 13th Circuit in Tampa. If you love the feeling that you are going to be fired every day of your working career, this is the place for you! Women are favored by the boss. Outside men that were hired prior to the current boss' reign, there are only a few that have not been fired or forced out or made uncomfortable staying there for any length of time exceeding a handful of years. Only younger women have been promoted to supervisory positions over the past several years. There is a huge push to have cases go to trial. As stated in another review, even if the client decides to not go to trial, there will be the pressure to get them to go. This presents a dilemma over which trial client that you have set will need to become the sacrificial lamb that month. Again, this is a gender-specific rule since there were a few women when I was there that were in trial divisions that had not been to trial in several years. Everyone in the office was willing to sit down and give thoughtful advice. The office had a very positive and friendly atmosphere. Loved everyone there. Honestly, the only issue I had was that I had to leave because the semester was over. But that is not always true, see below. There is a lot of pressure to take cases to trial even if the client does not want to go to trial. Note that ethically this is a decision that the client must make and not the attorney. It is unethical to misadvise a client about the merits of their case thus convincing them to go to trial when it is not in their best interest. If you stand your ground and live up to the ethical standards required of an attorney then it can cost you your job. Additionally management will not pay you for your accrued vacation time or sick time that was not taken. Seems like theft but the law if Florida allows them to do this. Guess who was behind this law.
