It's an environment where if you're running around like a headless chicken, feeling the heat of pressure, you're considered great, even if you're doing a bad job and making poor decisions.
Many bad decisions get made, and unmade, and re-made. Lots of personnel changes, people getting fired all the time.
I was pulled into many meetings by middle management purely about how to manage the expectations of the CEO, because perceptions matter here.
The app was very buggy and slow. The code base is a badly written behemoth with technical debt written on technical debt. We had thousands of errors spewing from the site that nobody cared to look at, even though it would sometimes mean core functionality wasn't working. If it wasn't in the eye of the CEO, it didn't seem to matter.
Concerns about bad technical decisions weren't listened to.
They've now hired a significant percentage of Rails developers in Auckland, with none of them lasting longer than 2 years, most about a year, before quitting.

Some very clever and talented people work in the company. Met some great people and made some great contacts and friends.

Staff are treated badly, team morale is the lowest of any organisation I have ever worked for. Company seems to make decisions that are not thought through very well. Running before it can walk. Terrible communication. Company is very money hungry and is the focus over actually delivering a good product or service for the customer. Lots of smoke and mirrors. Many people are working in roles that they have no experience in and others have lots of experience but aren't being utilised as they could be so are very frustrated. Lots of really upset customers so are in damage control mode constantly.

Try respecting and valuing your team, listen to those at the front line. Focus on doing a great job for clients and having enough resource onboard rather than taking shortcuts so you can deliver a good outcome and clients and staff will be more loyal.

Great social environment, diverse mixture of individuals. Regular meetings on current projects and kept in the loop on company road map. Celebrate birthdays and leaving do's (if in the in crowd)

The company is based on favouritism. If your in with management you'll do great if not you'll be kept on the side lines and even managed out. Was hired for a specific role and was then given a completely different role I wasn't briefed about. No real processes and some projects where just a mess. Very stressful environment at times. Have heard horror stories while I was their of new employees starting and then being asked to leave a week later if they didn't fit in or if management actually realised they didn't have a position for that role (which they should of thought of prior to hiring) very un-professional and unacceptable to treat a new hire on any employee in this way. Looking at all these reviews it seems like all the current employees were asked to create them much like the content on their Localist website.

We were bribed with a bottle of wine or movie vouchers to write a review for Ora. We were emailed at work and told to write the review. If we didn't we were individually chased up. It was intimidating and due to the open lay out of the office we didnt feel safe writing what we truly thought. Please take all reviews written on 22 Jan 2016 with a grain of salt.

Great Learning Environment

I've been luck to have met some really smart individuals and very good friends during my time with Ora. It's a great learning environment and if you're keen to put in the hard work and up skill yourself and keep up with the pace the opportunities for growth are endless.
The culture is amazing too! We're always having a laugh :)

Being a start up, pressure does get added but this is the case in most start ups. The key is not to let the pressure get to you and keep a cool head and persevere through.

I don't have issues with management. There have been instances when we were going through teething and getting the right mix of management, some worked, some didn't. I'm happy to say that we have a great management team who work together and look after their teams.
