AVOID IF YOU CAN! - Free Lunch on Tuesdays during company meetings - Employees there are very friendly and want you to succeed BUT READ THE CONS!! I'm sharing this in hopes of saving fellow top talent from wasting their time with this company. Although there are some incredibly smart individuals at this company, there is one downside: the CEO. I encourage everyone to read the bad reviews for this company. Keep in mind, these reviews are 4 years ago, 4 YEARS. You can probably guess what I'm about to say: nothing has changed. The CEO is very good at convincing you to believe in the product (I mean, he's worked on it for over 5 years already..). During your initial interview, he will seem very passionate about the product and really sell it to you, but do not buy this. This is just a facade and his true colors will be revealed once you join. You'll see that there is actually no direction, no go to market strategy, just build features upon endless features until the app is bloated. And once the app becomes bloated? The CEO will start blaming some of the sr. engineers wondering why the product is going nowhere, will keep saying the product doesn't work and starts blaming the technology when he was the one requesting all these features. You can try to have a debate with him and end up nowhere. He has a firm belief that when a technology does not work, if you refactor it to hell, you'll somehow end up with the right thing. At the end of the day, this CEO will micromanage you to death because if he can't understand what you're doing, he will assume you're a bad employee and start blaming you along with the technology. They have a great product, a really unique idea, unfortunately it is run by someone who doesn't know how to sell it to the market (look up a company called 'oodrive' and you'll see what I mean). Again, I can't stress this enough, READ the previous reviews from 4 years ago. In Oxygen Cloud, you always work on the latest technology and ware several hats at the same time. Your co-workers are awesome. Oxygen kitten always full of sweets to inspire you to work but also teach you how to survive. This is an ideal condition for the young college grad to start from. The top management changes his mind 2 times a month and this often end up rebuild the old thing, solve the old problem. Hence, Oxygen would hardly move forward. Beside, you are just a pawn in the chase game. Your different opinion only give you a hot seat. The coworkers are fun and genuinely nice people, we would often go out together or have fun events together. Most individual contributors were young, hip, and fun. It was overall really fun and social experience, I really enjoyed that aspect of the work. The CEO was pretty generous with his money. CEO changes his mind and would rebuild everything all the time. It was ridiculous how many rebuilds of the same product they underwent when other companies have already solved those problems and have moved on. CEO and his close confidants loved to criticize people and called people derogatory names or adjectives, there were some real jerks in that company who were running the show What was valued at this company was obedience to the CEO, not actual independent thinking. There are a bunch of lapdogs that really don't know how to do anything but the CEO loves them because they followed him blindly without ever questioning him. You constantly hear the company say "we are very different now than before", "we've undergone a change of direction, because we are a startup ...". Small company so you'll get to wear different hats. Salary is low compared to whats around. For such a small company, things are not very transparent. Numbers are not shared openly. Management is not very forthcoming with honest feedback. CEO has a large corner office separated from everyone else, which speaks to the culture. I've known much larger companies where C levels sit across from entry levels. He's a boss not a leader, does not inspire. Not much room for advancement, which led to high turnover. The cafeteria is pretty good, as cafeterias go. Campus has baseball and basketball courts, pool, and hot tub. CEO has a strong vision. Unfortunately, that vision can change dramatically as soon as the next buzzword comes along. My tenure included at least two "pivots", replete with axing a good percentage of the company each time. There is a fantastic base product hiding somewhere in the current jumble of features, but nothing has been learned from history, and the CEO puts all priority on adding features, and doesn't want to hear about existing problems. This, combined with what was mentioned in other reviews : "The CEO must approve EVERYTHING", makes it a remarkably difficult place to be if you expected to have any decision making authority. The product that actually provides all of the revenue for the company hasn't been updated this decade, and is treated largely as an afterthought. Listen to people outside of the 3-4 people that regularly spend their entire workday stuck in meetings. Lead the company, rather than sitting sequestered and unapproachable in your office. The decision making process is entirely opaque, capricious and baffling at best. If you have good ideas that stand on sound principles AND you are able to articulate why it's the best idea to solve the problem at hand, then the idea will move forward. This requires context, passion and confidence to develop and fight for an idea. It may take time for an Oxygeneer to get to this point. It may take a couple of weeks or a couple months. I've seen it happen at all stages, to different folks, junior and senior. It depends on the Oxygeneer's personal velocity (i.e. goals, motivation, effort, inspiration). I write this partly to address some of the negative comments in other reviews here about a supposed "inner circle". There is no such thing. I am probably one of those perceived to be in the inner circle. But believe me, I have days when I feel I am not in the "inner circle." It's all about your own personal confidence; it has zero to do with company politics. It's about having the right ideas, and making a case for them. They will be heard, though not always adopted. Resiliency is important in life, and essential at a start-up. Keep on swinging; victory is inevitable. And that's the way it should be. You can make a difference from day one regardless of your stated functional role. It's a pure idea-ocracy. In my opinion, the company is suffering from its own successes. We have profitable products and have a very comfortable office environment. We are innovating at the bleeding edge but not executing at the break neck pace that is required to help our more recent product breakthrough reach its full potential. The potential here is market domination. We need to get back to start up intensity and mindset.
