They give you great freedon for the exploration, the style and the interpretation of the subject. You're not followed by the art directors. One time they gave me the "ok" for the sketches one week before the delivery date, after 3 weeks they recieved them, another one they forgot it interly, as long as some material they had to deliver me for the work. They compensate the low rate never asking for revisions unless is very necessary (it is never happened to me in more than a year). The people I met have been all respectful and kind. The drawback is that very often I am not followed too much from the AD; the feedbacks take long time to come and most of the times don't come at all. private:paizo https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=809515 Apr 29th, 2017 12:00AM Open Open Paizo Freelance Illustrator Oceanside, CA Walmart for Illustrators - You get to paint fantasy creatures and characters, and you get paid to do it. - Great if you are starting out in the industry and need experience. - They send you a copy of anything that has your work in it. - The pay is definitely not something worth looking twice at. - They pay flat rates which as an artist I find insulting because every artist knows that one piece can take two hours while another takes much longer. - Feedback was almost impossible to get in a timely manner. I'd sometimes wait weeks for feedback on pieces and I'd have to cram all my work into a couple days just to make deadlines, leaving me with work that I certainly wasn't happy with. I even addressed this issue on multiple occasions and it was completely ignored by my art director. I was only in contact with one art director so I can't speak for the others. I can't begin to describe how stressful this was. - Pay was always late. Being able to work for them at large distance is a great bonus. I can't say much about them. I didnt saw inside of company. It was a lengthy period of time at which they considered me as an illustrator. Design of character from scratch, pose, sketch to a finished detailed color is $150 only... Absolutely unacceptable for the size of this company and considering how much money it makes from their publishing. - because of such low pay, expectations for quality end up being low too. This makes the job easy but boring as hell. - poor to no art direction. I have worked as an outsourcing coordinator and lead artist before and what we did at my work was night and day compared to Paizos managers. - incompetent creative design director. No basic knowledge of art fundamentals. No feedback let alone drawovers or any notes. Rude and one worded email responses. - the worst communication in my professional career experience. I had to wait for the creative design director to reply to me for 2 weeks sometimes with multiple emails sent from my side to remind them i sent an email or a simple question. And after 2 weeks, even when they finally replied, they rarely answered my questions. - still waiting for my money. It's taking them forever to send money even though on the contracts it says they send money after 2 months from order due date. At first i got payments on time. Then as i kept working with them more everything went down the drain. My last payment i waited for 3 months to get it and had to remind them twice that im still missing it. Now its been almost 5 months and i still havent received my next due payment. I have contacted them on multiple occasions and have waited for a response for 2 weeks now. -1.0 NEGATIVE 3.0 1.0 3.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 809515 Open advice to the owners. I really hope you find this review and fix your company. It is unbearable to work with.
