Resting on their laurels
|
|
The name recognition, the learning experiences, some of the very wise marketing reps, opportunity to move around departments
|
Pay is lower than other companies doing the same thing, lies about why they won't pay more, failure to be proactive, management takes FOREVER to hire other people, severely understaffed, people quit because they are not paid what they should be, even after 10-15 years of employment.

Panavision needs to stop relying on their name and claiming that's a reason to either rent , or work for PV. They need to adapt to the future and be proactive to the constantly changing film industry. Individual management (floor, and ops) need to stop hiring via nepotism, and also re-evaluate how they treat their employees. They point blame without investigating or understand situations. They are arrogant, rude, and pay more attention to policy than people.

A place to learn, or a place to settle down. You decide.
|
|
-Good alternative to an investment in Film school.
-Decent Benfits, although when they made the jump to Anthem, it got a little sketchy.
-Can be fun
-Make friends, those who grew up together at Panavision will likely stay in touch.
-Union (NY)
-Reasonable amount of vacation time for Union employees, 2 weeks after 2 years, 4 weeks after only five years, 6 personal days, 5 sick days. Many other good paying careers will make you work 10 years for 4 weeks, but Americans in general don't get enough time off.
The hustle can be a Pro, builds character and resilience, seems many people are just frustrated that Panavision doesn't function like a low-key 21st century workplace like Google, Facebook or some scrappy millennial start up but this is the Film industry, a business that moves fast.
|
Pay, it's not good.
Lack of communication between departments, there is always a lot of indirect tension between them but at the end of the day, it's nobody's fault.
Lack of standards, Panavision doesn't really lay out their expectations for their employees. Managers act new school in an old school business as a way of easing tension.
Opportunity for advancement is rare to nonexistent, you're one of the lucky ones if you move up.

Invest more in Service, Logistics, Prep and Rental. These are not easy gigs, and they deserve to feel as if they are needed. The turn-over rate is just so unessicarrily high. People like to say they work at Panavision, give them a reason to stay.

Lack of transparency with management
|
|
- Independent projects
- Close collaboration with manufacturing team
- Great place to learn about the industry
|
- Low level of collaboration
- Projects solely driven by marketing team
- Management positions are based on seniority in the company
- People are very secretive
- No sense of urgency on projects
- Internal teams have bad impression of engineering team due to performance
- Little room for growth

Great place to work with a big caveat
|
|
- Great work environment
- Always room to be productive
- You can learn a great deal about the industry
|
- The pay... the pay... the pay.
Panavision shoots itself in the foot with how they pay their employees. No one really stays due to that. At some point, you have to make the decision to move on simply because you can't afford to work there anymore.
