Fantastic team

Par8o is filled with hardworking and smart people who are easy to work with and management is very accessible. There are many opportunities for meaningful work and for influencing important decisions. The company respects your need for flexibility as long as you get your job done, which is a huge pro! Some days that means it's 9-5, other days it may mean longer hours or signing on later to finish a priority project. Performance is not measured by "face time" and good work is regularly recognized by senior management and the CEO. The furry/wet-nosed colleagues (it's a dog-friendly office) also make for a fun-hearted environment! Overall I've had a great experience at Par8o.

It's a small company with very stable management (a good thing!) so the opportunities to build out your own team or advance within the company may be a little more limited than at a larger organization. Some of the flexible benefit policies can also be a little tough to culturally understand for a new hire (unlimited vacation can sometimes feel limiting) who comes from a larger organization. As long as you're clear about what you're looking for in a company, are a self-starter, and willing to "roll up your sleeves"-- this is a company you can do well. No cons overwhelm the pros.

I was hired for an initial contract position that could potentially lead to a full-time position. I was given nothing but positive feedback and asked for more responsibility. On THE LAST DAY of my contact, I was told I would not be hired and was not given any explanation whatsoever. I was escorted out of the office, although I was simply trying to pack my things.

Everyone is really dedicated to what they are doing. For the most part everyone is super driven by what they do and work really hard. Laid back atmosphere and dog friendly.

People are really nice and fun, they provide free lunch and snacks, and it's a pretty open place. We have a monthly lunch with the CEO where we can ask anything and learn about what is going on in all areas of the company. That transparency is nice, as some companies hide the interesting stuff from everyone but senior management. Management (including but not only CEO) seems pretty accessible for pretty much anything.
There are definitely opportunities to move up and take on more responsibility for good performers (there are several examples of people who made huge leaps in their career progression). Promotion and opportunity is tied to ability and hunger, not tenure, length of experience, or politics (that I've seen so far).
Compensation and benefits are pretty generous. Face time is not an issue as long as you get your work done.

The office location (Newton Center) can be annoying if you live in Boston/Cambridge, and the existing office setup doesn't feel like a tech startup. Green line is a workable option for commuters but can be slow. We have plans to move later this year and management is conscious of it, so hopefully that will improve.
I heard the company was moving in too many different directions before I joined (last year), but I haven't really experienced that. Management seems to have a better plan for where the company is going, but we'll have to see if that continues. Maybe it's just normal growing pains in a startup.
