Administration was rude, unhelpful and condescending. There are inappropriate relationships between admin and owner that allow some people to be promoted and others to be overlooked. Many admin both current and former were unqualified and unprofessional. They are more concerned about staffs dress code than providing proper instructional materials for staff and students. They regularly moved students and staff from classroom to classroom not allowing for consistency for special education students. The students are just a means to more money for the owner and administrators. Many teachers are wonderful and truly care about their students but due to lack of admin support their jobs are too stressful and they become burnt out quickly. There are no breaks throughout the day. You are to eat lunch with students go to PE and teachers receive no planning period. Also there is no human resource department so all complaints are unheard or used against you in your annual reviews. All work must be done at home due to lack of planning time throughout the school day. My suggestion would be to not work for this company as they will continuously lie to you to get you to stay and will never actually follow through with their “promises”. Support from other co-workers is there throughout the day when needed. Staff is always willing to help out as needed. Administration seems absent at times and seem to be more focused on numbers than on employee satisfaction. The success of Parkland is the staff. Many have been a part of the team for years and strive to strengthen the program. Unfortunately, there are individuals in upper management who seem to be out for themselves and give little respect. The students are great to work with and be around. Staff wise very petty people, can't trust anyone, only your friend if you go along with what they say or do. Most feel threatened if you are doing a good job. Will get you fired for their satisfaction. There is no real Human Resource department and when a problem happens we are to blame rather than finding out what really happened. They sell school districts that there is a tradition program and there is nothing of the sort or remotely close to one. Teacher do their best but there is not funding for the classrooms or technology. The problem stems from administration who make a LOT more money than I think they deserve. Not even sure what they do other than make unfair policies and take away anything that improves staff morale. But hey, anything to save a buck! Supplies are scarce and most staff supply their rooms out of their own pockets with little to no reimbursement. Parkland does not comply with most Illinois state laws and I’m honestly shocked that this place is still in operation. Pay is trash (the only benefit is that it’s salary- so you are still paid the same through the holidays and summer break) and benefits are PRICEY. The only reason I stay with this company is because I truly love the kids. I’ve seen so many employees sitting on their phone throughout the school day which makes for a very unsafe situation in the classroom. Lunches are poor quality and are barely edible. Most students choose to throw them away and go without food the entire day. This place has some wonderful employees, but they don’t pay or appreciate them enough, making the turnover rate higher than I’ve seen in any retail job I’ve ever worked. Oh, and beware! Administration tends to fire those who speak up against them and/or their policies. Good luck! This company only cares about the bottom line. Decent pay and benefits are all that this company has to offer. After that, there are a number of issues with this company, and they include the following: - Weak Leadership - Policies are not implemented with fidelity. -Students are not held accountable for their behavior. -Employees are not valued at all. Employees are expected to do their jobs and are held to high standards despite the fact that they are given very little to no resources and support. Furthermore, if an employees displays behavior/practices in the work place that are somewhat questionable, Parkland does not respond by discussing the matter with the employee or advising the employee on how to improve his or her performance. The employee is not given instruction on how to improve his or her performance in a specific time frame. Instead, employment is terminated immediately anytime the administration identifies even the most minor issue with an employee's performance. -There are no opportunities for advancement. -There are no opportunities for professional development. -As an organization, Parkland's administration does not write letters of recommendation for employees, even when they are employees in good standing. -There is little to no job security with this company. Years of employment in good standing and quality performance evaluations do improve or have any impact on your job security at all. Any work that is done for this company that goes above and beyond the call of duty will most likely go unnoticed. -The work environment is volatile and stressful. -Teachers have contact with students for 8 hours a day with no breaks. -The building is not kept clean. -The rate of turnover is very high with this organization. Very few employees choose to stay with this company for more than a few years, and the company is quick to terminate an individual's employment when there is even the slightest issue with the employee's performance. -Students do not feel a sense of belonging with this organization. -The administration is not in touch with the true culture and climate of the building. -The food service at this organization serves meals that are of very poor quality, staff members are not allowed to go out for lunch, and staff members are not allowed to order in food unless it is Friday. Parkland will provide an educator with opportunities to gain valuable experience and earn a decent living, but do not expect your time at Parkland to lead to any long-term career success. Pay and benefits are ok. Parkland is more interested in their bottom line than the work culture or support for their staff and students. It is clear that staff is not supported by the administration and students are not given what they need to be sucessful, neither academically or therapeutically. The staff is micromanaged with a barrage of directives that have no real follow through and drastically unsupported by an abundance of administration, whose purpose and job responsibilties is unclear. The students have no clear consequences for their behavior and safety, for staff and other students in the building, is a major concern. The stress level for the teaching staff is significantly high, as breaks and duty free lunch times are not offered during the workday and you are expected to be with students all day, making it difficult to even have a moment to use the restroom.
