They go directly through the schools and just connect you with the client. They also do all the paperwork and background checks very quickly. That being said, as long as the arrangement between the school, Parliament and the student works out, I'd say that it's a good arrangement for everyone. They also do pretty well resolving conflict. It's a crapshoot depending on what area you live in. I also don't like the back and forth between ineffective school coordinators back to me and then Parliament. It then becomes a game of "he said, she said" resulting in a never ending round robin as your reward. Hence, if you get involved in one, it'll never end unless you just drop the student. I don't necessarily blame Parliament for this as much as the area and quality of schools they recruit from and the people you will eventually work with. The only think I found as a deal breaker with Parliament is their non compete clause. (If you work with a student and then decide to quit Parliament, you're not allowed to teach them independently for 4 years...which is to ensure you're basically out of any connection with them for the bulk of their middle school to high school career. I understand their reasoning behind it but realistically--I am of the opinion it's better to find your own students with such binding constraints. I have only one student now and will not take any more students. Nor will I continue my relationship with them after the end of the term. My takeaway from this company is that they're a good fit if convenience works out for all parties involved. But in the future, you're better off making the connections yourself in the school systems and doing the legwork on your own. You will always make more money working for yourself. I was exceedingly pleased when I learned she improved her score 200+ points and subsequently was awarded a scholarship to UF. I've since joined as a tutor and discovered the backend operations are as positive as the service offered.
