Decent place to work, but no transparency
Strong company culture, coworkers are very friendly
Very little transparency. I got laid off in the middle of the work day with no warning that it was coming

Thoughts
When I was there the team and culture was great. Due to new hires and changes all of that is gone though. It used to be an inspiring place. The people I had worked with grew me immensely in my career. Sadly they're all gone.
No growth. Worked there for many years with no promotion and only one raise in salary, which wasn't substantial. Work life balance was not valued during my time. Culture changes really changed the day to day. Very heavy egos and emotional tones throughout the agency.

Toxic Workplace

Coworkers were great, office space was nice but no one used it,

Management, manufactured attitudes, DE+I efforts seemed to be lacking, lied about their numbers, in the middle of a lawsuit

If you're going to shift your entire business model based on a "new" industry, don't put your entire efforts on it just for them to backtrack and lay off people. Two rounds of layoff in Q1 of 2023 is an embarrassment. The environment was completed controlled in a sense of low wages and performative pizza parties; whether they'd be nice outings or not, you paid associates like crap and we ALL we're talking about it. Maybe instead of paying an excess on a Christmas party just to lay off 8 people 2 weeks later seems a little ridiculous. Just know you're entire employee roster is talking about the poor leadership and unease about the companies honesty. Instead of getting rid of people's entire livelihoods, take a pay cut. If you're going to make poor business decisions, that's on YOU, not your employees who busted their butts for you guys. Also DE+I is not work that should be done after work. If you truly cared about DE+I, you'd invest in it rather than expect low-level employees to put in the work while you take the credit.

Its Ok

- Leadership is mostly down to earth and they are frequently in the office and reachable. - Benefits. - True flexibility in where you work. - Award Winning. - Diverse clients. - Appearing to make an effort in diversifying their employee base.
- Paying below industry standards - No clear upward mobility

Just Avoid
Good Benefits and some of the people here are good.
The typical agency "work-life balance". They don't value employees. If you give a two-week notice, you'll be fired without pay.

When an employee gives you the courtesy of a two weeks notice, don't fire them without pay. It's unprofessional.

Room to grow, but the good is good
Immensely talented group of people. Smart, creative, adaptable, committed, and point blank able to get things done even when it seems improbable. Employee-owned and ESOP is a rare find in any industry. Small enough to know all your coworkers and have sight-lines to senior management, big enough to feel stable. Awesome range of generational diversity, career backgrounds, perspectives, and experience to lean on and grow from. Opportunities for growth for the intrinsically motivated. Creative half-days, conference budgets, company-wide memberships, etc. If there's something you want to try, ask.
Some client retainers enable high workloads without the appropriate level of pay. Room for transparency in the promotion and development process, especially on the studio side. Lingering divide between studio and integrated side as both provide very different services and follow different models. Can feel like two separate worlds.

Be more communicative about the good things, even if they seem dull. Unlimited sick time, mental health days, stocks, professional development investment, and consistent retention (next-to-no layoffs) through sudden client losses or budget changes is not the norm most places. Integrate some sort of formalized 'thank you' system so employees can express gratitude and receive it in a public way. Too often a simple shout-out from a thankful coworker would turn many days around, especially when the day-to-day can be grueling. Don't let up on DEI efforts. It's more important that everyone internally knows what is at stake and where progress lies than the outside world.
