As Passive House Institute US (PHIUS) is in its eighth year of training building professionals in the passive house standard, a community of consultants continues to grow in North America. PHAUS is an independent limited liability company launched initially by PHIUS. It became clear an organization was needed to connect consultants with each other and continuing education events and information, as the latest research becomes available. The two organizations are designed to complement each other's work. The goal is for PHAUS to be responsible for creating an environment conducive to the growth of Passive House implementation and supporting the community involved in this mission. It will also be the hub for organizing national and local efforts to synchronize the various entities of the US building industry to build the roads to bring the Passive House Standard to everyday mainstream use. PHIUS is responsible for the Passive House Standard from a technical perspective and for the standards and tools which define it; responsible for ensuring Passive House compliance with Passive House guidelines and regulations. The point of creating separate organizations is to allow PHIUS to be freed up to continually improve, through research, the building science for creating passive buildings as it relates to our North American climatic context, and the tools to safely implement it with full integrity. PHIUS+ is an excellent example of realizing this goal.
