PathGroup is one of the worst lab company the exists in the lab business world. The pay is great, but the benefits suck. Pathgroup will move you around from clinic ( you are not a floater) or put you in a clinic without training you. They never trains. They believe the doctor or MA over you not better if you are right or wrong. You have to kiss butts and be a snitch to be on of the good employees. The leaders or managers know about about the clinics he’ll they don’t even know their job. They can not explain to you nothing. Every time you have a problem and you call the manager or lead they tells you to call a regular employee to help you. Pathgroup don’t care about their employees health they expect for you, your children, or family members to never get sick. They want you to be at work 24/7 sick or not.

Good place and company, hated customer care department, they were very petty, overall good people there. All of the supervisors and leads are very helpful, just do your job and go home. It will be great for you!

My time was fine

I worked with PathGroup for close to a year. Left to go back to school. It was OK. I learned a lot about OB/Gyn and my supervisor was somewhat of a micro manager (but I think she was micro managed as well). The actual job was straightforward and easy. It’s mainly drawing patients, ordering supplies, checking in with nurses, drs, making sure the work is accurate. Also make professional friends with the office staff, they will save you every time. Pay $17 hr

I was written up for missing a day due to an accident when my boss told me to go home. The people I worked with were rude and never let me do anything, but the things they wanted me to do were out of my job description.

Instead of "Physician Centered & Patient Focused", PathGroup is actually "Revenue Centered and Profit Focused"!

PathGroup used to be "Physician Centered & Patient Focused" when I first joined the group, but it has been more and more disappointing as time goes on. Instead of focusing on work quality for better patient care, the senior management is concentrating on revenue and profit, even at the expense of patient care. Also, the pay for Pathologists was above average in 2012, but slipped to below average now as my raise has been minimal over the years and it is better to just find another job than negotiating salary with them. Also, their molecular department is outdated in their reporting system, as the company is too cheap to use a commercial artificial intelligence software, but instead still do manual curation for all genomic variants without proper classification/annotation service. Even worse, I also overheard some conversations that they cut corners in reporting by only analyzing a small subset (e.g., 10-15% of total genes) of certain gene panels without properly inform their clients just to gain business. If you are a conscientious and ethical scientist or pathologist, please be aware of those shady business operations before making a decision to work there!

Worst lab ever
|
I have worked in different cytogenetics labs in USA and Pathgroup is by far the worst experience I ever had. This is the only lab I will not ever consider of going back. I rather change career or move to another state and do something else if Pathgroup is my only choice. The job is too depressing, there is not teamwork, not flexibility, there is mandatory overtime all the time, and they write you up for anything. You are always in constant state of fear, and protecting yourself which creates unnecessary stress and depression therefore low productivity. By the time you get home you are mentally drained. The weekends are not even long enough to recharge.
Management mantra is "everyone is replaceable" and that explain why they are always hiring. They are always updating program, software, non-stop validation, implementing evaluation program....and nothing improve! Too much input, energy and time and the output (final cases reported) is so low. They are always asking for overtime, especially during the holidays. I chose to work in healthcare and I know we MUST work during the holidays and I have done it for more than 10 yrs but in Pathgroup it was too depressing, they don't celebrate anything. They just give you a meal in Thanksgiving and an email to work overtime during the holiday. Overtime is needed not because of the volume, but due to Pathgroup system. It's a bottleneck everywhere! People get frustrated and they leave because there is not incentive to stay. Benefits are horrible, culture is sad and depressing, salary is lower compared to other cytogenetic labs in the area. Pathgroup is the perfect place to start your lab experience, once people get the experience they leave. Something positive about Pathgroup is the cytogenetic directors. Pathgroup hired the best cytogenetics directors, they are so knowledgeable, professional and they have so much respect for you as a tech and as a person. If the directors have more input as a management maybe less people will stay longer in Pathgroup.
We all leave Pathgroup with Impostor syndrome :(

Short and simple way to say it. I absolutely LOVED it there. I loved all the work I did and truly appreciated my supervisors and the company over all (for the most part they have trust their employees and treat you as such). I have been gone (due to relocating) for a little over a year, I still tend to wake up with a few tears sometimes from missing PathGroup and my supervisors. Nothing is for everyone and no one feels the same about things, but with them, I can promise, you wont hate it. Best of luck to you in your journey!
