private:paulhastingsjanofsky&walkerllp https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=3319 Mar 11th, 2021 12:00AM Open Open Paul Hastings Conflicts Researcher It's like Get Out, but corporate The money and the coworkers are nice, the department is good about diversity and inclusion kind of? Also the free food and champagne on occasion was a nice way to get out of the office and mingle with other departments. Paul Hastings as a whole was a nice place to work, but personally I would rather get food poisoning than have to spend another day in the Conflicts department. Don't be fooled by their smiles and sweet sounding voices. Your mental health will deteriorate; working here was the deciding factor in putting myself on anti-depressants/anti-anxiety medication and I am sadly not the only one. First of all, if you value direct communication in the workplace this is not the right place for you because the work environment was about as passive aggressive as a middle school friendship. The managers never actually told you what you were doing wrong, or if they did they normally waited about 3-4 months after you've been doing the task wrong and then would say "did no one tell you?". We were also always encouraged to ask questions, however asking a question is almost like asking a broken magic 8 ball because they only give one answer which is to refer to the tasks. The tasks are a long list of email chains that begin in the early 2000s and go up to present day and reading them is like walking in on an inside joke and no one even attempts to explain the joke to you. They are also outdated and don't provide all of the information needed to complete the task at your fullest potential but this will only be your fault for not being able to read your managers minds. The tasks are also considered a part of our training manual and although you do have a trainer a lot of the training process is self taught. This is incredibly difficult because the work is so niche and the only thing you have is this training manual that is incredibly dense, it's almost like reading a math textbook that provides 0 explanation as to how you get the answer to a problem. And then you have the tasks which are like those pinterest blogs that have recipes where they first explain their entire life story to you, but then forget to include the measurements in their recipe so you just have ingredients but no steps. Also don't even bother trying to tell them that their training system is flawed because they will gaslight you and imply that you're actually the problem, not their training system. When the manager tells you that this is a perfect place for career growth and opportunities that's not true and it has been stated in previous reviews below. You honestly have a better chance of being closer in line to the throne than you do a managerial position in this department because it's based on seniority and the current managers have been there for 20+ years and there are about 4 others ahead of you who have also been there for that long. There really is no real opportunity for growth as an employee, not a manager, because the only way to move up is if someone new gets hired and I wish you the best of luck if you're the newest hire and they decide not to hire anyone else after you because you'll be trapped doing the most mindless administrative work for about a year and then they'll penalize you for not being as far ahead as the person who started before you even though it was fully out of your control. I've been told if they don't like you they will do this thing called "phasing you out" where they will literally pretend like you're not there. They won't involve you in group projects or refer to you in meetings, it will truly feel like you're not there. If they do like you, they will force you to work 45-50 hour weeks and basically put you on call and ask you to work at any moment of the day because we are technically a "24 hour" office. Overall, I give this place a 1/10, 1 because most of my coworkers were cool and there was a nice espresso machine on the 25th floor but yeah other than that not worth it. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL 0.0 NO_OPINION 3.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 5.0 1.0 3319 Open 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 0.0 Mar 30th, 2021 08:51PM Mar 30th, 2021 08:51PM Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker, LLP Financial Services
