Paul Stuart is a heritage brand that is working to move into a new market. They have high quality product and a devoted customer base. You can make an impact because it is a small corporate structure. They compensate well with a good salary and insurance. Paul Stuart has not reacted well to the pandemic. They have reduced their staff to a point of not being able to function. Their systems are not supporting the business. They have no 401 K match and it is difficult to take any time for PTO due to the low staffing levels. The company treats their management poorly. We were expected to do anything and everything from coming in on our days off to intense physical labor to working open-close shifts. The managers are also not apart of the union so you can be let go at anytime which they are constantly doing so they can hire people at a lesser pay or their friends. We were forced to cancel vacation plans that were planned and approved in advance because they, last minute decided they wanted to run a sale or have an event that day/week (or they realized they approved too many vacation requests and then forced others to cancel). The communication is non existent. The CEO is scatterbrained and always changing her mind so everyone has mixed messages and dates. You find yourself doing everything for the sales team because many of them have been with the company for 10-30 years and will refuse to do certain things such as ringing on the register, or even just assisting a customer that they know they will not be getting commission from. The atmosphere gets incredible cut throat because of the commission and fights among the sales team breaks out regularly as they argue over who’s sale is who’s (sometimes even in front of the customer). There are no write ups enforced by the hr department and the sales staff is unionized so there is a “you can’t touch me” mentality. A manager that had been with the company for I believe 50 years retired and they didn’t even plan a send off for him until last minute when he was already gone and they had him come back in for a quick glass of champagne and a card. The company doesn’t value anyone no matter how hard you work or bend over backwards. It was honestly a toxic environment and nearly everyone I worked with shared the same sentiment. There isn’t enough staff in any department so they have everyone juggling multiple jobs that they didn’t agree to when they were first hired, so everyone is over worked and exhausted except for the unionized workers that have a clear contract that says what they are and aren’t aloud to do. The company is considered to be high end but they are incredibly cheap. The soap in the employee bathrooms is literally slightly soapy water. We couldn’t even get real soap in the bathroom they are so cheap. Sometimes there’s an employee sale where they give us discounted blazers and such for about $25-$50. The catch is the clothing they are actually trying to sell to us are riddled with stains, holes, and basically falling apart but the company will do anything to make a quick dollar. This company is so poorly managed and does not know how to move into modern times. Inventory is a complete disaster. There are very few people working at the company with any common sense or work ethic. You will get to learn much about the industry and Paul Stuarts history as a company. If you are a hard worker and consistent there could be great opportunities ahead. I also love that people come to you for fashion advice so you are not just a sales employee but additionally a fashion consultant. Every employee I have talked to has been super nice and professional (yes even senior management). Great company, great perks! That is a great first impression LOL. • Employee On-boarding was not planned out and it felt as if they wanted me to do all the HR work for example (when I needed to provide a document, I was told to upload it myself when the HR site I was supposed to upload to wasn’t working fully). • After I got hired I seen an opportunity for another position within the company and I was terminated from employment. The reason I was told is because I didn’t want to work in my current position. Employees treat each other with respect and kindness. Not a modernized company. There are systems that need to be updated and made for 2017.
